Is Manhattan College a commuter School?

My son was accepted at Manhattan College, He likes what he hears but is afraid the kids leave on the weekends. Doe anyone have any information on this?

I don’t know about weekend "traffic ", but it’s no longer a commuter school and hasn’t been for years .
I believe 85%-90% are boarders , and virtually all of them live on campus

Thank You. We are from the Boston Area and no one knows a lot about MC. Do you know much about it. What other schools would you compare it too?

MC is an unusual school in that it has highly successful stem and business programs that it offers to kids who often do not have the stats to tackle those subjects. It’s a gem of a school for that reason. It’s very easy for schools like MIT and GTech to brag of success as they have kids with the numbers, background and record to be successful. Even throwing a lot of those kids in a cell for 4 years, they’ll still be brainiacs. MC takes kids who don’t have those numbers and get a lot of them through the grueling course of study at an impressive pace.

It’s a very small college. Much smaller than many high schools. It has a lot of great housing options, more than most schools its size in a big city. It’s housing overwhelms the physical campus. It’s in one of the best neighborhoods of NYC, the Riverdale section of the Bronx and is close enough to the the parts of Manhattan to make that a part of the campus and ECs. Yes, it’s truly an unusual school, and I can’t come up with a comparison. I think it is very underated, and that for kids with aspirations of NYC, small close environment, nurturing in some tough subjects, a chance to get a high career option degree and even cost, it cannot be beat.

Thank you so much for your helpful response.

I went to Manhattan college excellent engineering school, sadly that was not my major but overall a great education. Back when I went it had a mix of commuters and those that lived on campus, but since my graduation they have built several dorms. Many schools have kids return home on the weekends. It’s located in a really nice area of the Bronx, near where the subway line 1 begins, near Van Cortland park.

FYI, Rudy Giuliani attended manhattan, he was mayor of NYC.

my son graduated from Manhattan College with a degree in civil engineering. If this is a program that is of interest, I would encourage a close look. It was a fantastic experience. The professors work very closely with the students. The school is small but there is a very strong sense of ethics throughout the campus. They have a very active alumni association and their engineering alumnae are especially helpful, especially in the NY/Connecticut area. My son’s education prepared him well for a career, and he got a great job shortly after graduation, making excellent money with limitless opportunities. As a parent I especially appreciated the caring environment during his 4 years there. He also has a very tight group of friends from there, and everyone I have spoken to agrees that it was a perfect choice and wonderful experience. I’ve never met anyone who regretted sending their kids there.
