Im currently a sophomore in HS.I'll be turning 16 soon. I plan to graduate in the summer of 2016. My current gpa is 2.8 unweighted and 3.5 weighted. I honestly dont know if the major state universities will accept me so I would like to know how bad is Miami Dade community college and then transferring to a state university?

Also I was considering moving to California when I turn 18. My mother and a lot of my family lives there so I wouldnt have to pay for a dorm hopefully. I really havent thought about college or good universities in Cali tho. Can you name a few?

With this GPA you can get into FAMU, FAU, FGCU, UWF are matches. USF is reachier but still possible if you get a good ACT score (26-28.)
UF, FSU, UNF, and UCF are probably out of reach unless your GPA increases.
Since you’re a sophomore, you’ve got good chances of improving your grades if you work a little harder
Miami Dade is a good community college, it’s even been commanded nationally.

If your mother lives in California, would you move there for your senior year? Would she become your custodial parent? If you graduate from a California HS and your custodial parent lives and pays taxes in California you’d be considered in-state for tuition purpose. However with your average, you might only get into UC Merced and some non-impacted campuses or majors so I’m not sure it’d be a good idea for you since FL colleges aren’t impacted.
Based on your GPA, you could look into Chico, Sonoma, Humboldt, Channel Islands (CSUs), plus Loyola Marymount, Whittier, St Mary’s of California, University of Redlands.
But overall, I’d pick Flagler or Eckerd over these, simply because the price would be more favorable for you.
