is michigan- ann harbor worth applying with my scores

hi, i am a junior with around 4.1W weighted GPA, 3.5 UW, 1440 SAT on the new one, my SAT translates to a 31 ACT, and i have a long list of volunteering (around 200 hours), internships including one at johns hopkins hospital, and a long list of helping community members. what are my chances? I am also Vice President of my grade, served multiple years in student government, future business leaders of America reginoal and county champion, state champion, national contender. 4 years of lacrosse in high school, in national honors society, 6 AP classes in high school. Also an officer of 3 clubs, and a minority, live in MD, and trilingual

Obligatory: Ann Arbor may be worth it; I don’t know about Ann Harbor.

Serious it is; work on closing your Jr year out strong along with your seventh semester.

Your GPA will pinch. You want to raise it as much as possible over the next two semester (Spring 2017 and fall 2017).

Your test scores are fine and you have an interesting background/profile. It is definitely worth applying, but keep in mind that it is a reach.

And as wayneandgarth pointed out, it is Ann Arbor.

Does spell check change Arbor to Harbor? Nope. Not sure why people keep calling it that. Number one rule: spell the name of the school correctly!!

3.5 is tough for AA. Is it worth it? Don’t know. Can you easily afford the app fee? If so, then yes.

As you live in Maryland, what is wrong with the University of Maryland? It has an Honors College, and will be much less expensive than the University of Michigan (or the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where you also posted your query).

What exactly are you looking for in a college/university? Do you know what you wish to study?

i want to double major in economics and finance and go into investment banking so id like to go to a top 25 business undergrad school

@ayad.r I’m not entirely sure about the stats of all the people who do get into Ross, but I can expect that the stats and qualifications that UMich expects from OOS students would be much higher than instate. I’m an instate student who will be going to UMich for both engineering and Ross for 2017/2018 respectively. At my school the average test scores for those accepted at Ross, from those I know, are in the 1500s for the SAT or 34-35 on the ACT. GPA for all of them are above 3.95 by Michigan’s reweighting of GPA. These are some stats from applicants at a top 10 public highschool in Michigan. I’m not entirely sure what exactly the expectation of OOS students are but I do know that your GPA is quite underwhelming and test scores are slightly below average. If you can aim for a minimum of a 1500 on the SAT and aim for all A-'s or A’s for the remainder of this school year and senior year, then your chances should be slightly better. Good luck when you apply to undergrad business schools this summer/fall!

okay thank you

There’s no finance major per se. Everyone in Ross majors in business administration. You ca take finance courses for all your electives to get additional background in that field.

If you also want to major in economics, that would be in the LSA school , and you’d have to get a dual degree – a B.A. in economics and a BBA from Ross. There’s really no point to it, actually.
