Is most of the student body racist, elitist and or bigoted?- In light of the those frat videos

I was just accepted off the waitlist a couple days ago and my admissions rep called my college counselor saying that they would have a generous financial aid package coming my way. Now, I haven’t seen the package yet but I’m really hesitant to even consider going to Syracuse. At one point, Syracuse was my top choice and I was so sure that I would be going there. When I found out I got waitlisted I was quite surprised because Syracuse was always my match school and I got into schools that are supposedly harder to get into. I put Syracuse aside and showed no interest in them what so ever. I didn’t send them emails telling them how much I still loved their school and how good my quarter 3 grades were going up. I just accepted my spot on the list and then proceeded to ignore the school. I began to fall in love with another college that I now believe is perfect for me. However, if Syracuse gives me a better financial aid package than the school I’m currently enrolled in I feel like I have to take it. The big reason as to why I don’t want to go to Syracuse is because of those disgusting/terrible frat videos that came out. As an African American girl, I do not want to go to a school where hate is so present. Now can someone tell me if most of the student body agrees with the views of those frat members?

I doubt it as most colleges are filled with young people who aren’t racist/bigoted/elitist, but still, like most Greek systems there are issues, so steer clear of frats…

@raine445 Congrats. Would you mind sharing which school at Syracuse you were accepted to?

hi! i’m currently a freshman in vpa. seeing those videos was honestly one of the most disheartening things to happen this year. it hurt to see that people still think and speak that way. however this is not a problem that only resides in Syracuse. there are many people here who think that way, Syracuse is a big school. but when those videos happened the students didn’t put up with it. there were so many protests and rallies after those videos happened. there were so many discussions that were held regarding this. theta tau got remove and there’s currently 18 people right now who are going through a case right now that decides their punishment. the policies of fraternities and sororities is getting reviewed now which is nice because i honestly believe there is a problem with fraternities here right now, that’s why this video happen.

tldr: the majority of the student body did not put up with this and made sure there was proper consequences for those in the video.

Syracuse is actually very diverse. The community is very accepting of everyone. The content of the video was disappointing to most on campus and dealt with swiftly. I would not allow it to influence your decision.
