Is my essay topic good?

Prompt: Some students have a background, identity, interest, or talent that is so meaningful they believe their application would be incomplete without it. If this sounds like you, then please share your story.

My major is going to be neuroscience (the study of the brain). My mom has suffered 2 traumatic brain injuries: one before I was born and one when I was in 8th grade. She is the person who got me interested in neuroscience because I have lived with her my entire life. Generally, I am going to write about this. Is this a good topic? Does it stand out? Any suggestions?

Make sure that you mom’s history is not the focus of your essay. The essay should be about YOU, not mom. How did mom’s medical issues inspire you? How has it shaped the person you are-- not just your intended major, but YOU?? How will it effect the person your roommate gets to know, the student your English Comp teacher gets to know?
