Is my essay topic interesting and unique???

I’m an asian (Korean) male that lives in Alaska. One of my personal essay topics that I’m considering is about me playing competitive hockey (for almost eleven years now) as an asian kid. I was thinking about retelling an experience about when I was told by someone that I suck because I’m asian. I’m still trying to figure out “what I want my colleges to learn about me”, but I want my topic in general to be about this. I know that writing a personal essay about sports is really really really cliche. Is my essay unique/interesting, or should I think of something else to write about?

It’s what the colleges want and need to learn about you. In other words, something relevant to their review. You’d need a good idea what this means.

Sports isn’t cliche, much less “really really really.” We have no idea what narrative you have in mind, but I can think of ways it could be great. But you have to remember, “Show not just tell” and to make a point that matters in an admit review. Not just a clever tale or declaration. So keep thinking.

What are some ways that it could be great? I was thinking that I could tie my story to the fact that I love meeting new and different people and that I’m always trying to meet new people.

It may be cliche, but I feel that if it is very important to you, then you should write about it!

“Show not tell” means you have things to point to that show how something changed you or you evolved, the next steps you took. Sometimes that’s for others. It’s not just saying you feel differently or etc.

I dont see how liking meeting people is an outcome of an Asian kid in competitive hockey. Think about it. Later you can pm me.

Also, what sorts of colleges?

Don’t sweat “cliché.” Write about your experiences as a 17 year old college applicant.

And absolutely, “show not tell.”
