Is my GPA acceptable?

I've been attending community college for the past year and I'm also taking courses throughout the summer as well. As it stands my GPA is roughly a 2.9 now, I've calculated that if I do everything right in the fall semester, though, I will have a 3.33. I'm not sure if I want to stick around for the spring semester, I will have already taken the highest level math/science courses offered, but it remains to be seen. Perhaps I'll just finish out the two year program and if I pull A's in everything up till then, I should leave with a 3.5 or 3.6

I've never been overly concerned with GPA's, I never even applied for college in high school, so I'm not quite sure what is considered a good average.

I'm enrolled under the engineering program right now but I may switch to general science in the case of a transfer, something math/science related at least. I scored 1850 on the SAT in high school, I'd probably retake it because I thoroughly enjoy standardized tests, and I believe I could score significantly higher than I did two years ago.

So one question I have is: Is there a major difference between a 3.3 and 3.5 GPA? If all goes according to plan I will have a 3.3 by the end of the upcoming fall semester, if I finished out my associate's degree I would leave with a 3.5. I'm getting quite bored of this school and it is fairly expensive as far as community college goes - I pay out of state tuition and my financial aid is minimal. What is the better option here?

I'm fairly disappointed with my performance this past year, I easily could have maintained a 4.0 but I'm lazy. Now I am hoping that I will be able to turn it all around. I still have no direction. No idea what I want to pursue in the future, or even what school I'd like to transfer to.

A few other things about myself: I'd like to believe I can conjure up a nice transfer essay if that's even necessary? I will soon be a certified personal trainer under a very rigorous certification, though, I realize this has no bearing on my current major. I also hope to have independent research published in a peer-reviewed journal by year's end.

Not very articulate, but anyways - Did I shoot myself in the foot by slacking and earning consistent Bs and Cs this first year, or will my final GPA be acceptable? What level of college can I expect to be admitted to? Thanks for reading, everyone.

Most schools would want your GPA above 3.0.

If you want to transfer to selective schools, the higher GPA the better!

In general, SAT does not matter anymore when you’re transfer school after freshman year.

Acceptable is a subjective word! In terms of transferring, a 2.9 GPA is not acceptable IMO. You can talk about how easily you could get a 4.0 all that you like, but you’re not doing it so no one cares. Get to work next year! lol

A 2.9 isn’t the worst GPA in the world. Work harder next year to bring it up and you should be fine.

I think that certain schools might accept a 2.9, but they would likely be “lower quality” in-state schools. Although a GPA that low could really hurt your fin aid options.

Just work on getting your GPA up to at least a 3.0
