my school’s on the list! :)

lol Thomas Jefferson is not even on it, that list is wack

^TJ isn’t on because it’s one of the “elite publics,” along with Stuy and the like, as it has an entrance exam.

But my school has an entrance exam and is still on the list. Meh.

^ The metric for the list makes it a stupid list lol. Look how many FL schools are there, that’s because the FL state government subsidizes schools to give out free AP exams.

The problem with ranking high schools is that it looks at the student body on the whole, when really, that doesn’t reflect the true competitive nature of a high school.

I’ll use a personal example.

I go to a high school that doesn’t make AYP. We have a pathetically low graduation rate, and are pretty darn poor. At the same time, we have an IB Programme, we regularly do well at We the People Nationals, we have one of the best Speech & Debate programs in the state, last year’s high SAT score was a 2380, and we sent 3 students to Stanford, 1 to Harvard, Swarthmore, Brown, Cornell, WUSTL, Georgetown; our AP Chem 5 rate is around 50%, etc.

The point is…at the top of our classes, we do very, very well; and it’s quite competitive. However, because of the atrocious numbers from the bottom 50 or 60 percent of the student body, and decent-but-not-great numbers from the 30 percent in between, our school would never show up in a US News table, despite how our students do.

^You forgot to point out that you do live in Alaska. And yes, I do believe that that list is faltered, but I want to see a long list, not top 100, that means almost nothing to me.

My school is in the top 50 -_-

My school used to be ranked like #200-something in 2007, #500-something in 2008, and following the pattern the school’s not even ranked anymore. :D

I’m glad though, as there’s less competition.

That list is BS. Elk Grove is better than Franklin if UCSB is better than Cal. And we ripped Pleasant Grove apart in college admissions.

Why did you use oos instead of 00s?

I think so.

My school didn’t even make it. (Expected.) The best school in our area is in the 1400s though… lol

The district which I went to school in has all 5 of its high schools in the Top 100 now as far as I know.

My current high school is not even on there.

My school isn’t on the list, despite the fact that apparently we have one of the highest API scores in CA and are considered a California Distinguished School and Blue Ribbon School. Lol whatever, what a joke.

999, awh yeah top 1000 lol

Not really…my school is 36, and i know there are worse

I don’t trust that… Generally my school was considered one of the most competitive ones in the state (not THE most, but like top 5), and the only time I checked the whole 1000 list it was 900-something…

what state do you live in qwerty

I live in Michigan.

My high school is top 250. We’re also Quiz Bowl state champs for something like five years in a row, send ~10 people to NFL Nationals each year, and go to Science Olympiad nationals pretty much every year.

Shockingly, though, it’s not THAT competitive. But that’s only because we don’t rank (or weight GPA). I shudder to think of what my high school would be like if we DID rank. It would be Hell…
