I am a sophomore in high school and have not taken any AP courses. My school is not very good yet offers 18 AP courses. I was going to take AP Government this semester but got out because of scheduling issues. My schedule is currently:
-English II Pre-AP
-Art I
-DIM (Photoshop)
-Spanish III (Monolingual)
-Algebra II Pre-AP
Next semester I take Pre-AP World History, Pre-AP Chemistry, and Pre-Cal, but my other two classes are undecided. My mom won't let me take any more difficult classes and insists that I take easy electives so that I don't overwork my self. This is kind of true considering Algebra II often keeps me up until 2:00 AM (extracurricular also take up this time). What courses should I take this coming semester and Junior year? I'm worried that my schedule is not as demanding as top universities would like. Any advice will be appreciated. Thank you!

If you already feel overworked, then you should try to keep your schedule as demanding as it already is (or less so).

That said, what are you interested in? For example, if you really like chemistry but hate physics, then you’ll have a much better time taking AP Chemistry than AP Physics, because you’ll be willing to put a lot of work into it and probably do well. This has the added benefit of learning something because you truly enjoy it - there’s much more to life than simply an acceptance letter.
