i really wanna go to northeastern but the only thing holding me back is the drinking aspect. i've heard its common to go to clubs or bars, but for someone who doesn't plan on investing in a fake id or even really drinking will it be hard to make friends or find somewhere to go on the weekends? i just dont want to be stuck in my dorm room all the time because i dont have a fake id to get into a bar or something

There are people that drink like any other school, but there a people that don’t. Based off your interests, you will find friends that reflect those interest. I have friends that drink and like to party on the weekends to friends that don’t drink and have never gone out to a party. In the end, its up to you to find those friends. However, whether or not you drink, you will end up having a great time in Boston. Congrats on being accepted to Northeastern and feel free to ask me any other questions you may have.

I don’t drink at all here (started as a health concern, but now I just don’t like to). At first it was awkward sometimes because my roommates were heavy drinkers, but as soon as I found my group of friends that I’m close with it was completely fine. But I didn’t like my roommates as people anyway, and several of my current friends drink. What’s most important is when you find people who won’t try and make you feel bad for whatever your preferences are.

Don’t worry about Northeastern having any kind of reputation- its no worse than any other school. In fact, the academic ones are sometimes worse than here. Ever heard the stories that come out of Brown?

i agree… i think that being in Boston actually makes it a lot easier for people who don’t want to drink. There is a whole city of things to do and places to explore, whereas if you go to some school in the middle of nowhere there might be nothing to do except drink.

I’m hoping to go to northeastern as a transfer and I think the city is great for non drinkers. My old school was in the middle of nowhere with nothing to do so if you didn’t go out and party (which i didn’t) it was pretty boring. Plus northeastern is so big that you’re gonna find all different types of people. good luck!
