i have an 88gpa unweighted and a 1200/1600 on the SAT
and a bunch of EC's

do you think i can consider new paltz as my safety school to stony brook, SUNY buffalo and albany. If not then please reccomend some suny safety schools. btw do you think i have a pretty good shot at buffalo and stony brook? i live in long island btw and i know i have a pretty good chance at albany but I dont want to go there because it's a party school. please help..right now i have the impression that college is impossible to get into with my stats and i am definitely not going to a community college

“For the fall 2009 entering class the mean SAT was 1170 (CR & M) and the mean ACT score was 26.” “We look for a range of an 87-93 high school average.”
This is from the SUNY New Paltz facebook page and the website.
I don’t think you can consider NP a safety.
SUNY’s that could be safeties are Oneonta, Cortlandt, Pottsdam, Plattsburgh, Brockport, Fredonia, Buffalo State, Farmingdale abd Purchase.

oh thanks that was actually pretty informative but what do you think my chance is of getting into the school then

I think you have a good chance. Write a solid essay and include a couple of letters of rec if you can. If you have any questions about New Paltz, I’d be happy to try and answer. My son is a student there.

I totally disagree with LillyMoon about some of the safeties in the SUNY system, in particular when it concerns Fredonia, Purchase and Brockport; they are tougher admits than the others. Cortlandt and Oneonta were easier last year. As for New Paltz, a classmate of my D’s, with much lower stats than you have, was admitted there, ED, last year. Good Luck!

thanks for replying but if he applied early decision doesnt that make his chances much better

Purchase is not hard to get into unless you are trying for the conservatory programs. My friend’s daughter got in there with pretty low stats, but she was not a student of the arts.
