Is not getting into the Kilachand Honors College a dealbreaker?

Hey everyone!

I was accepted to BU and offered the Presidential Scholarship, but not in the Kilachand Honors College, unfortunately.

I was accepted to the honors program for two other colleges I am considering: Northeastern and Rutgers.

As of right now, I prefer BU, but I am worried about not getting into the honors program. I’m not too sure about the pros/cons on it, since honors programs differ per school. I have heard good things about Kilachand though, and that I can’t get in once I am a student.

Would you consider it a considerable disadvantage, and a reason to choose other schools? Any insight would be appreciated!

Thanks!

You can still Graduate with honors from BU without being accepted to the honors college.

Being in an Honors program has nothing to do with graduating with Latin honors…

@TomSrOfBoston Latin honors? I’m in comp sci if that makes any difference.
If that’s the case, would you say not being part of the honors college isn’t that much of a bad thing?
Thanks

Think Tom meant that you can still graduate “cum laude”, “magna cum laude” or “summa cum laude” without being in Kilachand, provided you do the coursework and earn the GPA required by B.U.

Honors makes very little difference - it can amount to more perks and sometimes slightly more specialized attention, but will make little difference in the end, excepting a few special cases. I wouldn’t factor that into your decision as anything more than a neck and neck tiebreaker.

This all coming from a Northeastern student :stuck_out_tongue:

Focus on fit, programs, cost, etc.

@Merlin2020 oh haha I see
From what I understood, being part of the honors college has different perks, like smaller class sizes, different (better?) housing, etc.

@PengsPhils oh okay that’s good to know. Thanks!
