Does BU include housing or not?
Can you please list the NET PRICE* for EACH university that admitted you (NYU, BU, and any other)?
*(tuition, fees, room, board) - (scholarships, grants) = ;…
OR
for all universities
(tuition, fees) - (scholarships, grants) = …
For NYU, since I will be living with my family it still would be more expensive than BU. Both universities roughly have $55k tuition fee, but I will be paying for housing at BU.
NYU: $44,430
BU: $28,070
I think in the end, BU will be the better option, as I won’t go in debt after grad.
@kdalida Hey, thanks for starting this thread! Congrats again! I’m struggling with choosing either UCLA or NYU, and I can’t choose yet because I’m not sure how much NYU is going to give me for financial aid.
Sorry if I’ve asked you this already (I’ve been asking a few people), but how long did it take for your package to be given to you after you got your admission? It’s already been a week since I got my decision and I let them know, so I was able to get a two-week extension by calling undergrad admissions.
If NYU is $44,430 and you got a $12k scholarship, the COA was around $56-57k? I’m trying to get a ballpark estimate for my COA right now too, because it’s at the original $78k on my account but I don’t think it’s been updated. Also, do you mind letting me know what was the name of the scholarship you got? I called financial aid after I called undergrad admissions, and they let me know I’m getting a scholarship as well but that will be released with my package, so I don’t know how much it will be. I found out that apparently, our package depends on how many units we’re transferring over to NYU in addition to the EFC the university calculates.
UCLA costs around the same for me as BU is for you, but regardless, I’m still leaning on going to NYU (if financial aid goes super well) because I feel like we’ll never get the opportunity to create our own concentration again, you know? You said you wanted to do something with business, and even though you’re not going to Steinhardt, you can still take all of the classes there and take all the Business Admin classes! You’ll just have to balance it with the Liberal Arts requirements Gallatin has, which I think is still awesome because you’ll get to study business through that lens!
Like I said before in the NYU thread with you, I’m thinking of doing Econ, Psych, and Sociology and ultimately want to do something in the business industry too, but I’m just not sure what yet. I think the value that lies in Gallatin is that they allow you to pursue your passions first, and help you find a career that is in line with your passions—esp. since NYU has so many resources and opportunities. That’s what I’m ultimately after but, yes, finances play a huge role.
If you can attend BU without debt, and considering they’re both very similar in environment, academics, and rankings, then I’d choose BU without doubt. If you have another school that’s cheaper than BU, then consider it.
@kychi19 I received my financial aid offer four days after my acceptance letter, if that’s helpful. I’m in CAS though not Gallatin, so maybe that makes a difference.
@kychi19 oh hey again! I actually got my financial offer around 5 days after my acceptance. I got the Gallatin Scholarship but it’s just not enough and I am living with family so COA won’t be ~$75k.
I fell in love with Gallatin and it’s program and being able to cater my interests to something solid, but finances are real.
UCLA is incredibly amazing as well! Honestly, this whole college decision process is painstakingly tough.
@MYOS1634 Yup! Student debt is no joke fr.
How was the financial aid offer?
@kychi19 UCLA for sure, that’s a no brainer
That part is a farce. You will not be able to get into classes at other colleges because they go to those students first. Advisors don’t advocate for you to get into those classes because they need to fill the useless Gallatin courses. Advisors are only interested in you if you align to their particular area like dance, gender studies, writing. They have no real connections to get you useful internships . It will be the worst investment you or your parents can make on education… believe me I am a student there and my parents have spent a significant part of their savings to help me. Here is your tell tale sign… Gallatin has a seminar on How to Sell Your Gallatin Degree… when you have to have a seminar on how to tell someone about your degree… that is a red flag.
