Is Physics a necessary course in high school?

Hello,

I wanted to take AP Biology for next year. When looking at my grades my science department chair said no, and this was at first. Then when I met her for a second time, she changed her idea of grades and blamed it on my work ethic. I know this girl who has the same classes as me for these three years and she has earned the same grade. The fact is that my Dynamics teacher kept telling her that I should take Physics and I don’t want to take Physics in high school. But of course she made the Department Chair force her hand so that I’m not allowed into AP Bio. I deserve a chance as much as anyone else. She wants to put me in Academic Physics, too.

If I fail it is because of me and not anyone else. The fact that she won’t give me the opportunity makes me angry.

I have taken:
Academic Biology (9th)
Academic Chemistry (10th)
Anatomy and Physiology I (11th)
Dynamics in Healthcare (11th)

If you are planning on being a pre-med in college, it’s to your advantage to take a year of physics in high school.

Physics has a steep learning curve and not having prior exposure to physics in high school makes it much more difficult to do well in college physics–which is a pre-req for every US med school.

Physics would be part of a standard college preparatory curriculum. AP classes at many high schools around the country have very limited number of seats. If the Dept. Chair is not convinced that you are serious about college prep, then they might not want to put you in one of those precious seats.
