I know that in most colleges, pre-med is just a list of classes you have to take, allowing you to major in anything. But I see on the notre dame website that there is a major called “preprofessional studies.” I would prefer to major in something like math or statistics and just take the required classes for premed, but would notre dame make me double major to do this? thanks in advance.
You can definitely major in math or statistics - or anything else you want - and still be a pre-med student. It’s no different than at any other school. ND does offer two majors as options for students planning on a medical/health career: Science Preprofessional Studies (SCPP) and Arts and Letters Pre-Health. Some pre-med students choose one of these majors, but many choose other majors. So no, you would not have to double major. Although you certainly could if you wanted to, and a lot of ND students do (and many add a minor to boot). My daughter is double majoring in SCPP and Spanish, with a minor in Anthropology. A lot of her friends have double majors and a minor as well.
Here’s a comparison of the three most popular pre-health majors (but again, you can major in anything else and still be a pre-med student):

that was extreemly helpful! thanks!
