I am planning to go with some friends to Prom. However, I do not want to spend too much money. My mom is not going to help me pay so I'm on my own. I don't want to spend like 200 dollars. Is Prom fun? Is it worth to spend so much money for one night? How was your Prom?

My guess is that every school is different.
In my opinion, it is not worth it. (And I do go to lots of dances.)

Reasons:
Our Prom is 4 hours long, but often times people do not want to be the first ones there, and end up coming around 30 minutes late. Also, the only songs they play at our prom are rap songs, so there are two options: sit and watch or get your groove on (in a sexually suggestive manner haha).

And, being a guy, I don’t want to pay for someone who is “just a friend” and plan the bus, limo, etc. for something that lasts around 3 hours. (A guy’s total can pile up to 500 dollars - tux, tickets, dinner, corasge, limo/bus, etc)

It’s definately a great experience, but if you’re a Junior, you may consider sitting this year out and going next year.

nah I’m a senior lol…
we only have a senior prom

Aight my advice is this. Unless you have a date thats fine as hell, dont go. If you are planning to go with friends, its not worth it. You could have much more fun doing something else and spending less money. I am a senior as well and i’m not going to my prom because of cost and, well, cause it just isnt that sweet. Just go to the after parties.

I’m going this year but it’s not gonna cost more than 100 dollars. I’m borrowing a dress from my friend who has like 10 formal dresses hahah and we’re all getting together to do each others nails and hair and makeup.

I had to spend some money on the limo and other stuff but the most expensive stuff I didn’t have to pay for. The tickets were quite expensive but the guys buy that haha

I’m only a junior though. I’ll definitely be spending a lot more money next year for senior year prom…

I would say it is worth it, but that is only because I enjoy dancing (not that I am good at it, ha), but it’s a fun time to hang out with your friends and your date. It is, obviously, very expensive, but the experience will probably be worth it.

My mom has regretted for 25 years that she did not go to prom. Her friends still talk about that night good or bad.

just go. It only happens 1 or 2 times in your life. A bunch of my friends think they’re cool by not going. -__-‘’

$50,000 per year for college, but $50 per couple is too expensive? 0.o

I stayed home and played Mario Kart Wii and Pokemon TCG with my friend, who also didn’t go to prom.

It’s definitely worth it if you’ve got the right folks to go with or a good date. But the music always sucks… all rap.

My brother told me that his prom wasn’t fun at all. He told me that it wasn’t worth paying the amount he did. Basically, he said that you either just grind with as many people you can or just stand around talking or looking awkward for 4-5 hours. Some of his friends just went to the afterparties that were being thrown instead.

i think it’s worth it. i mean, yea its pretty expensive but it’s one of the last times you’ll get to hang out with friends and save memories.
I don’t want to later regret not going.

Sometimes it doesn’t always work like that. It might be that you’ll have a bad time, but you won’t know until you go. :-)

Ew prom. Lol.

I’m going, mostly because I REALLY want to wear a long pretty dress, and I’ll never again get the opportunity to do that again (until I get married).

Plus our school’s prom is at the Kodak theatre. No way am I missing that. :D

^Haha, that’s most likely my rationale as well. I want to splurge on some really gorgeous designer dresses. Maybe one of those places where you can “borrow” dresses for a week. lol

The only good thing about prom is the after-parties.

^^where can you borrow dresses?

I think its worth it. I still remember my junior prom last year. Its a pretty memorable experience. Plus, my date was pretty good lookin. :P

But yeah, definitely go. You only get prom twice in your life.

go to prom you never wanna be those old cranky people who regret not going to prom. Go with your friends have fun. Don’t just stay home while all your friends are having a good time.
