On a college’s website, it says to send one letter of recommendation from a teacher who’s taught you in a core academic subject. So I wanted to ask my Psychology teacher, but I thought Psychology was an elective. So is Psychology a core subject?
Not that I know of. Cores are English, Math, Science, History
Good luck
Foreign language is also a core subject.
It means a teacher in English math, Science, social science with or foreign language. (If applying to an art/mysic major, 1 art/music is ok).
However you can have extra letters, from your Psychology teacher for instance.
In my kids’ high school, AP psychology is the only psych offering, is in the social studies dept, and is considered a core class (as it fulfills 1 yr of the school’s 4 year social studies requirement)
In my kids’ HS, AP psych is also offered through the social studies dept., but it is considered an elective and it doesn’t satisfy the 4 year SS requirement. I guess you should check with your GC.
History/social sciences. Also foreign languages.
Psychology is a social science.
Now, whether the psych teacher is the best choice might depend upon the schools you are applying to and who your other rec is from. Personally, I’d probably choose another teacher, but you can ask your GC for guidance.
