is rice more sciency or LA?

in the midst of decisions, something i'm really wondering about. i've heard a lot of stuff from Rice about engineering, being close to the TMC, nanotech/chem, etc, so i'm wondering if Rice, despite being "a small school with the populaiton of an LAC but the resources of a university" is still inevitably inbalanced.

i've heard that certain departments are pretty good, like history and the baker institute, but then again, MIT has great business, linguistics and eco depts but the bulk of university resources and culture are focused on math/science/engineering.

my dad really wants me to go to wellesley instead of rice because of this, but i'm not sure whether it's a legitimate argument or not (i'm really a liberal arts person with only a curiosity for science).

I would say the science department is definitly very good.

DD is a liberal arts person, and loves Rice. Check out the website and see how many people graduated in each area of study. The "bulk" of resources are not focused on math/science/engineering. Lots of money and resources to focus on all areas!!!!!

I think Rice is a perfect balance between the two. The sciences AND the liberal arts are strong. The Shepherd School provides great music programs of all types.
