Which one is harder - SAT subject test Math level 2 or regular SAT’s math section?
I got 800 on the subject test, and haven’t taken the actual SAT but on the practice tests I always get around 700 for the math section. (On practice ACTs I get between 33-36 for math)
Any way I can prep to make up for this?
Also, I will be submitting my Math level 2 test to all my schools (even they don’t require it, they all accept it), so can it compensate for low score for regular SAT math section?
The subject test tests harder subjects but has a nicer curve. Sat math has easier subjects but a harder curve and gridins.
No, SAT subject test won’t compensate for your SAT math score, They are two very different things.
I assume that if you have an 800 on the SAT math subject test, you must know about the curve. It is way more easier to get an 800 on the SAT subject test as compared to the real SAT. As far as i remember, missing even 15 questions on the SAT subject test will get you around 780-800. But on the SAT math, if you miss even one question, your score will drop to 790. And an approximate decrease of 10 points on each question until 700.
To prepare for the SAT math, you first have to have a very strong knowledge about the matter. Next, you have to read the questions very very carefully. Most people get stuck there even after they know 100% of the matter.
I would suggest you refer to your school course book/ khan academy for the subject matter. Princeton review SAT book for the strategies and Khan Academy SAT portal for SAT practice.
Seeing that you can get 700 on the practice test, you just need to polish your skills and review the course material.
Good luck!!!
One correction to the above post. A student may get a raw score 44 out of 50 questions and still receive an 800 on the Math Level 2 subject test, including 1/4 point deduction for wrong answers. No deduction on the SAT for wrong answers.
