Is Scholars' Weekend worth the trip?

Hi, all --

We haven't yet received our Scholars' Weekend info, but I wanted to ask the SC "veterans" if they think it is worth a (plane) trip from out-of-state (specifically, Syracuse NY) to attend this one-day event? I will appreciate any advice, since we would like to book travel plans ASAP.

My wife and S are going, but driving since it is only 6.5 hours from here.

I think the REAL purpose of the event is to get undecided people to commit to USC. I am not sure why we think our son needs to go to the event since he already has commited to going to USC, but we're doing it anyway. My wife hasn't seen the place yet, so that's our excuse!

Mom
Have you visited before? If not, its probably worth it as you will see the campus, meet people, see how plane/ground transportation works, etc.
If you have visited before, you prob can wait for an Orientation date...they don't do any testing/registering/advising on Scholars weekend.

Yes, we visited last February during our winter break week. SC was our last stop and, frankly, our biggest surprise: far more impressive than we had expected. (Bear in mind that my brother is a Clemson grad! ;)) For example, the USC tour guide was the most polished and professional of all those we met during our whirlwind southern tour. In order, we visited James Madison U, UVa, Duke, UNC-Chapel Hill, Wake Forest, Clemson, and USC (whew--it was a long week).

USC was not on our original list to visit, but it kept coming up on the short list of matches for my S's criteria, particularly in terms of size, major, and Division I sports.

do you feel like you have enough info to make a decision or would the visit help cement the decision? That I think would be the only reason to visit again.
Its possible they could arrange a departmental meeting for you that might help.

Go to the Scholars Weekend. We wish we had been able to go that weekend with DD last year. However it was the same weekend as our all state music festival in which she was playing. DH and DD did go another weekend and they did roll out the red carpet...but I think she would have been better served on a weekend when there were other accepted students for her to meet and do things with.
