Scholar's Day

Has anyone received their invitation? The scholarship letter said to expect it in " a few days" but we have not received anything.

I was wondering if perhaps they were going to send those scholar day invites once the Capstone Scholars were notified. However, I will say...three weeks isn't much time to plan a trip if you're coming from far away. We haven't heard anything either.

PA Mom and thumper1...my d hasn't received her invitation yet. I do know one of her best friends just heard she received the McNair.....she had the most wonderful time on Campus during her interview.

Got the invitation in today's mail. We live only an hour's drive from Columbia. You should see yours soon.

nickmom.....would you let us know the time frame.......thanks so much

That sums up the text on the invitation. Hope I didn't spoil the fun for anyone!

Thanks for the info nickmom....hmm....I understand what you mean about spoiling the fun....hah

DD has still not received ANYTHING from USC about the scholars weekend. We are unable to attend...but still...where is her mail????

thumper
S has not received it either.the info is available online and you can reserve a spot there so you dont have to wait for the snail mail.If your D cant attend Im sure the nice peo-ple in Admissions will arrange a visit for her that would mimic the activities of the Scholar's Day.
S won't attend as he was just there, plus he has his last Key Club convention that weekend.

We have not received it yet either. I already made reservations since we are traveling from PA, so I sure hope she is "invited" !
J/K I'm sure it is just in the mail. I'm sorry you will not be there, but my D has decided that USC is her decision so we are going for a closer look from a different perspective ( details like dining options, banks, pharmacy, etc....)

Yeah I got it Sunday with my official Carolina Scholars letter. Should be fun.

just got our invitation today...Dallas

Ours arrived today too...CT. Too bad our All State music festival is the same day. We'll be calling the visitor center to arrange our own visit. They are very accommodating. To all of you going....have a great time, and please report in...

thumper
I encourage you to call Admissions, not just the visitors center (they just handle tours).Ask them if its possible to enhance your visit as if it were Scholar's Day..perhaps meet a student, extra dorm tours,a pass for lunch in the Russell House, etc.
Good luck and have a great visit!!

We got ours today. Very short notice. D wants to drive there with a friend who was also accepted (but without sholarship).

We have driven that trip from New England. It is a VERY long drive. In fact, when we made the trip in summer 2004, we actually drove from Columbia SC to Maryland...a long enough drive, then drove the rest of the trip the following day. On the way down, we drove to Richmond VA (a long drive from here...), spent the night there and drove to Columbia the following day. I do not believe this is a good drive for a one day trip.

Anyone going that would like to meet up and introduce the kids?

We get in late Friday and are staying until Monday afternoon so D can attend "real" classes and also get a feel for things when classes are in session.

My husband and son will be staying at the Inn on campus. They are arriving on Thursday, and leaving on Sunday. After this trip, Paul will decide where he will attend. I know he would love to meet any potential classmates.

That's what we wanted to do as well but D has senior retreat Thursday and Friday. We're going in late Friday and leaving Monday so she can see school in session and attend classes on Monday.

to whoever is attending:
Have a great visit and come back and report on everything! Especially on the activities/EC's etc, discussion of which were totally left off of the McNair days.
