Is SCS very hard to get into ?

Is it very difficult to get into SCS ? If so, what kind of stats are they looking at?

For the current freshman class, 5,071 applied, 345 admitted, 136 enrolled. SATs 25-75%ile, CR 720-800, M 780-800, WR 720-800. ACT composite 34. GPA 3.88. Two SAT IIs required, Math and either Physics, Bio, or Chem.

ACT composite 34 - what is the range?

The fact sheet for SCS says 34E 35M and 34 composite. No ranges. But their SAT “range” is like 20 points. Odd to me that their SAT averages are right at 800 but their ACT is an entire point below top.

iirc 92% of their applicants use the SAT so that might be a reason.

I apologize if I am hijacking the thread.

Does SCS accept Ecological Biology for the SAT II test? The admissions website said it takes MB Biology, but doesn’t mention E Biology. I don’t have enough time to take another SAT II test.

Does anybody know how holistic the admissions process is for CS at Carnegie?

My SAT(R 600/M 800/ W 700) and ACT (32) are ok, but poor for Carnegie CS.

However I do have good M2 and Physics subject tests both being 800.

My GPA is also pretty bad 4.05 9 - 11 weighted but that’s because I didnt take school seriously enough in 9th and 10th grade. My junior year GPA was ~ 4.4 and this semester (I’m a senior) I have a 4.6. I took AP Calc BC and AP Physics C during Junior year got A’s in both, 5’s on AP Exams, and an award for Outstanding Achievement in AP Physics C At my school (Only junior to ever get it)

I have also taken 3 computer science classes at my local community college and gotten A’s in all of them. Two of the classes were Java and one was C++.

I also have a fairly successful startup I founded a year and a half ago developing iOS and Android games. One of my games has over 50, 000 downloads(free) just to give some measure.

I also have experience as a web developer. I’ve made my own website and done some backend development using Google App Engine and PHP on a VPS server.

The reason I am asking all this is because while my past academics and current test scores are not great, how much do you think Carnegie will factor in my very progressive grade trend and passion and ability with programming?

Btw here is my company website: [Into-It Games](http://intoitgames.com) You should totally check it out :)

You should have a fair chance of getting into SCS! Yes, your stats are a bit lacking in terms of SAT scores and GPA, but there is an upward trend in your grades (I had not-so-great grades sophomore year, but it was apparently okay). However, your biggest strength is definitely your startup. Make sure to emphasize that in your application – in other words, don’t be humble about it (of course, don’t be obnoxious either, but that’s a given). If you have any non-CS extracurriculars (music, martial arts, other sports, etc.) you should emphasize those as well. I get the sense that CMU especially likes the multi-talented/interest people, considering how many people double-major there.

which one is harder to get into? CIT or SCS? And should I put them both as my college choices?

^ SCS, Yes
