Is SFSU really that bad?

I keep hearing how horrible this school is compared to other CSU, that it is just a commuter school and that it is hard to get classes due to the fact that there are so many students. Are these the facts?

Right now, this is the only school that i have been admitted to, still waiting on CS-Fullerton and CS-Long Beach (Didn't get into Cal Poly or SDSU w/ a 3.4 going for Economics). I am getting kind of frightened that SFSU is the only school I will be getting into for Fall 2012.

Should i just apply to other schools for Spring 2013 and skip SFSU altogether? Should I apply to other schools for Spring 2013 admission and take a semester at SFSU? The only attractive part of SFSU is that I am receiving the GI Bill so I would be getting $2800 a month for Basic Housing. Would it be a terrible mistake going here?

San Francisco Area itself is beautiful and it’s filled with lots of great opportunities. Take a tour of the school and see it for yourself. I don’t think it’s a bad school, I might go in the fall of 2012 and I’m sort of happy, just for the fact that it’s in San Francisco. EVERY single school is going to have its Pros and Cons, just make sure to do your research. A school is a school, no matter what.

No, the school is “not” that bad!! You are the one who will make a college good or bad, the effort you put into your college experience will be whay you get out of it. I have heard of plenty of kids who love it, others not so much…some good profs some bad…but really no different than any other CSU!

It really is just a matter of opinion and taste. From what i’ve heard from everybody on campus (I am a sophomore/junior at SFSU) most people either really enjoy it or want to get out as soon as possible. As the person stated above, San Francisco is a great place and there is quite a bit to do here once you figure your way around but the hard part is finding people to venture out with you. A lot of people who live on campus tend to hang around the campus area and the people who commute are in and out quickly for classes and thats it.
As far as getting classes, it can be really tough to get a lot of the classes you need and registration is like a war zone every semester…but that’s every CSU these days so I wouldn’t worry to much about it. I’ve had some really ******y professors and I’ve had some amazing professors. It all just depends, ratemyprofessor is your friend.
I myself am trying to transfer to CSU fullerton and i’ve visited that campus as well and i really like it down there, but again, it’s a matter of opinion. I would definitely recommend coming to tour the campus up here before you decide anything if you can. I made the mistake of not doing that and got up here and it’s not much to my liking.
If you have any other questions about dorms or anything feel free to ask and i’ll answer as best I can. :)

Before we had a good financial state, but now it has gone down the drain (kinda ). At least, I would wanna assume the worst. Instead of a UC , should I just go to a state school like SF?

^I see that you were accepted to UCLA. SF State is a great school with lots of great programs (and OP I know people that enjoy it, the Bay Area is really nice-I live here- and I haven’t heard anything about it being worse than other CSUs).

However, it is simply not of the same caliber of UCLA. It will not provide the same opportunities. If there is any way for you to go to a UC, I would try to swing it. However, if you do end up at a CSU it’s not the end of the world and you will still do fine. I do think a UC is worth the extra money/debt. That is just my opinion; you will have to find your own. Perhaps make a thread and I’m sure some parents would love to help :)

Edit: Oh and sorry to hijack the thread OP lol. But don’t worry about SF State, really it’s a great school. It does have typical CSU problems but no more than the rest
