is she lying?

One of my friends told me yesterday that she got into Yale. But I don't understand how should we know this yet. I know that she applied to Harvard EA and was deferred, so she wouldn't have been able to apply to Yale EA and don't the RD decisions come out in a few days? Is there anyway that she could know whether or not she was admitted, or is she just lying?

She might have received a likely letter from Yale. While not acceptance, it's kind of an "implied" acceptance.

If she's really your friend, she shouldn't have any problem with or think it weird of you to ask to see the letter.

we're friends but not that close of friends really. we have a class together and run track together and talk a lot, but i don't feel like i'm close enough to just ask her to see her letter. i guess its not that big of a deal, i just know that she tends to lie alot, and i thought this seemed rather suspicious. she said she never expected to get into yale and just applied for the heck of it, and harvard was her top choice but she said she doesn't know where she'll go if shes accepted to harvard as well.

Just ask her if she got a likely letter.

my friend told me there was a girl at her school who said she was accepted to both brown and yale with a full ride scholarship but was going to turn them down to stay in texas with her boyfriend. that was total bull. first of all, there are no scholarships like that at either school. also she was telling people this in january. there was no way to know that you were into both schools then.

so people do lie about it. but it is possible that your friend is telling the truth.

does she have really good grades and SAT scores?

A lot of ppl seemed to get Likelies this year. There was a girl at my school so i doubt she's lying.

she got a 2300 on the SAT and has taken lots of APs and i think done well in them. so it didn' surprise that she would get in. i hope shes telling the truth.

I don't know, people do lie, this one legacy guy at my school claimed in Jan. that Princeton wanted to fly him to NJ for a personal interview for a full ride, but he had to say no for the lame reason that "he only took two subject tests." Just bring it up casually like, 'that is so cool that you got a likely,' and see what she says in response, or just wait for three days to say 'yay, I got in too' ;-]

Not at all- it's still around 50~60 non-athletes. It just so happens that a lot of them are CC'ers. :)
