Of all the university websites I've visited I've never really seen anything about speech. Maybe I'm just missing it.

Has anybody taken or planning to take speech?

I feel that it's up to the school...I'm a nursing student, and the only school that I will HAVE to take speech at is NYU.

My current Community College requires one for transfer.

To be honest, I wasn't particuarly excited about it from the beginning, and with two weeks left in the semester, my attitude hasn't changed, but the class is full of useful information that really can help you communicate better in everyday life.

If you want to see what you might learn in a communications class, I would be willing to e-mail you the three page final paper I just finished last night- it's supposed to be a summary of learning in which students must address and give examples for three concepts learned in the class.

Public speaking doesn't bother me as much as it once did. Although, if I have to, I'll probably take speech during the summer (3 weeks only!).

I just checked UT's degree requirements and it says nothing about speech, both for bio and english major. So I guess I won't worry about it.

bstewart: Just curious, what three learned concepts did you address in your paper?

I am doing Principles of Interpersonal Communication.

Three concepts, with examples are:
Self-Fulfilling prophecy
Non-Verbal communication
Syntactic Rules
