Is Spring admit worth it?

So it's a really tough decision to make on whether to attend USC in the spring. Basically, there are a lot of major downsides to it in my opinion. I'm looking at other schools (Berkeley, ect.) that have admitted me for fall.

I've talked to a couple of other spring admits who have decided to accept the offer, but both of them are set on USC as their dream school whereas I don't know if it's the perfect school for me. That being said, I'd most likely choose USC if I'd been admitted for fall. Help! Any thoughts?

both! lol pick a school to go to in the fall (e.g. berkley). If you still have lingering feelings about usc you can go, if you fall in love with the school, tell usc you changed your mind. You might lose your deposit, but I think it’s worth it to hold the spot.

Yes, I considered this! Is it “legal”? Or just indecent to double-deposit? Also, at a spring admit session I went to at USC, the admissions counselor mentioned that no 4-year school you attend for only one semester in the fall will be happy to help transfer your credits to USC.

I don’t know if it’s legal, but it’s definitely unethical to do a double deposit. I got spring admit for UCB and they explicitly stated on their website that I could not attend another 4-year university in the fall. Anyway, considering the cost of USC, I think Berkeley would be the better choice. I love USC (hence the reason I committed there!), but from a financial standpoint it’s better to go to whatever school gave you the fall admit.

^ At the spring admit info session at SC, they said they were okay with spring admits attending another 4-year school in the fall. Although the fall school probably (definitely) won’t be as understanding. Thanks your your opinion tho! I’m assuming you were a fall admit at USC then?

oh and btw I’d be paying out of state for Berkeley, so the costs are pretty much the same.

Honestly like I liked the name of Berkeley as well but like there are a lot of daunting factors (which is why I decided on USC Spring)
Like the whole bell curve system in my opinion is horrible … especially since I know literally all the people who “hardcore” cheat and will sabotage you in the blink of an eye are going (my classmate going to Berkeley got another classmate kicked out of our school in order to get rid of competition and they were good friends…but this isn’t even the surface of what kind of kids from my school are going)
There are also other things too though but overall I like USC better and think I’ll have fun there (which is why I’m going)

it’s both legal and understandable. you’re paying tuition at the school for the fall, you’re paying for what you get, so why should they get upset? They have students transfer all the time. As for the “not happy to help you transfer credits” thing, I would question that. But if you’re smart about it, you won’t even need their help. There’s a site where you can see what specific classes will definitely transfer (and have transfered before) from certain schools; if you’re sure they transfer, there’s nothing they can do to stop it (he might have meant they just don’t advise you well in choosing).

Thanks for the info sclove09. For past/current spring admits, did you tell the fall school you attended that you’d be transfering after a semester to SC?

I’m not much help but I personally did SIR to Berkeley for the fall and will transfer over to USC in the Spring. I’m glad I’m not the only one around here! I believe Berkeley is a little too cutthroat for my tastes; USC is more concerned for their students than Berkeley.
I’m a little lost about transferring credits and which classes I should take (bio major/premed) so any help is appreciated.

linnase,

go here: [USC ARR : Articulation](http://www.usc.edu/dept/ARR/articulation/)

and click Transfer Planning Guide for Prospective Students

It’ll ask you for the college (Berkley) and major, and show you which classes have transferred for other students from there (guaranteeing it will transfer for you) and which GE/major requirement they fill. Hope this helps!

I went to a different four-year university for fall semester and I did not tell them that I would be transferring. It was easy to transfer after one semester.

Coming to USC was definitely worth it for me! I love it here, and although it’s a little more difficult to meet people at first, it can be done, especially if you join lots of organizations.

lennase, wow I am basically in the same situation as you and plan to attend Berkeley in the fall (and stay if end I up loving it). Did you already mail in your response card for USC agreeing to be a spring admit?

Thank you so much sclove! That’s such a wonderful and helpful guide.
Classicalbang, yes, I did submit the card. I was also contemplating if I was going to fall in love with Cal like you but after USC’s admitted students reception, I’m excited to attend USC haha.
