Is that easy to transfer to University of Michigan Ann Arbor

Hello, I am a international student. I am a senior. I received offer from MSU. But my dream school is U-M Ann Arbor. I didn't appy it because my SAT and Toefl score are not good. I only got 1680 on SAT and 84 on Toefl. So I plan to appy to U-M as a freshman after one year in MSU. I hope someone could tell me if I got over 2000 on SAT before I graduate from high school, and got over 100 on Toefl test, is that possible to get in U-M Ann Arbor as sophmore? Thank you very much!

It is typically not easy to transfer as a sophomore in particular – UM prefers to see some kind of college track record and tends to admit more transfers into junior year, not soph.
On top of that, it has an agreement with the state to accept qualified junior college students who prove to have achieved suffiently high GPAs.

As an international, I’m not certain you will transfer easily, because in general, only 6 percent of applicants accepted in regular admissions are international.

Much, I feel, will also depend on your performance/GPA and recommendations from MSU.

I know a couple of international friends that managed to transfer here, pm me if you want more info.

Thank you for your helping!!
From your sentences, is that mean I must finish two years in MSU so that I will have more chances?

Yes please!!!I really need more information!!!
Are you international student as well?

You may try enrolling at University of Michigan, Flint Campus & transfer after 2 or 3 years. More details below:

I’m not too well versed in this topic, but my friend spend was accepted to MSU as well but was declined from umich. He got a 4.0 his first semester at MSU and applied to Umich again and got accepted. He officially starts class here in the fall of 2013 :-).

I am not an international student, but I do know a couple that took the transfer route. Private message me if you want to get in touch with them.

Really???
So he transfers to UM after first year in MSU???
Does he has any other special ability, like sports?
Dose he provides his SAT in high school?
Could you tell me some details about him???
I really want to get in UM… T.T

@Ruixue, no there’s nothing special about him. He’s even international so he has to shell out a lot of cash lol. Make sure you write a strong prompt when you apply, that’s all.

So he only spend one year in MSU, and then transfer to UM-Ann Arbor?
Is that right?

Michigan usually has similar standards for transfer applicants as it does for freshmen applicants, and usually admits a similar percentage of transfer applicants (35% last year).

A 3.7+ GPA from MSU ought to do it. I recommend applying in January of 2015 though, not before. As some have already mentioned, Michigan prefers transfer candidates who have completed at least three semesters before applying.

My son transferred from Grand Valley after one year with a 3.8 (he applied for Spring Term all U of M had was 1 semester of grades prior to admission). I think he was close to getting into U of M out of High School 3.6 UW GPA, 31 ACT.
