I am now a student in SUNY. (SUNY not CUNY)

It is not a prestigious school to be honest.

How hard it will be to transfer to NYU or Columbia from CUNY?

THanks.

THanks.

Do you mean CUNY or SUNY? You refer to both.

Anyway, I went from CUNY to NYU, I transferred after three semesters.

I’m transferring to NYU next year from a bad SUNY! And I was waitlisted at Barnard (which is part of Columbia University). So it’s definitely possible.

NYU or Columbia? Those two schools are in completely different categories!

Don’t be disheartened. People transfer from community colleges into both Columbia and NYU (and columbia actually has a very good connection with cc’s), as well as from CUNYs, SUNYs and other top tier schools. They just want to see that you made the most of the college you’re in now. You could be in a top school making a 4.0, but if you’re not involved and your teachers don’t even know you well enough to write you a good recommendation, you would definitely get beaten out by the other students who had 4.0’s at less prestigious schools like the SUNY’s who made the most of their education by being very involved and getting to know their profs.

It’s all about the full package. Read up on some of the transfer stats for NYU and Columbia and see the kind of people they take. :)

Paula can you please elaborate on Columbia’s connection with CCs. Is it exclusive to CCs in the NY area? I’m in cali and 2 students from my CC got into GS one from last yr and one this yr.

I wish I knew more about it and I cannot find information on columbia’s website about it so I’m not sure what the details are. I know that with specific community colleges, including Suffolk, the community college on Long Island that my friend went to, they have an agreement that if students from that college have a certain gpa (I believe it’s a 3.7 or higher) they will either accept a better percentage of them or consider them first. I wish I had something to back it up I’m really not sure what the actual situation is.

Columbia takes many CC students from all over into the GS program. Do note, however, that their generous financial aid program does not extend to GS students.

yes. i got an acceptance to both schools after 1 semester at a cuny. work hard and you got a shot.

If you transfer, do you need to start over or continue the rest of your studies?
