Is the campus ugly? Pictures?

Ok, so the title of the thread comes from what most people tell me about UTK's campus. Some say it is nice in the mountains, and others say it is kind of blah. Do you find this to be true?

Sorry, for some reason campus beauty is kind of important to me. Can anyone recommend a place to look at pictures of UTK's campus? Wikipedia only takes you so far, haha.

I have not visited yet, but I only live about 8 hours away, so it would not be that bad of a drive to go check out Knoxville.

UTK is not on my list, yet, but I would kind of like to go to school in TN. I looked and visited Vandy, but I just didn't like it, even though people told me I'd be a low reach at Vandy. It was ok, but not worth 50k(even though it would have been at least 25k for me, still a lot).

Does UTK give good scholarships to OOS kids?

Thanks, I'm kind of covering a lot of bases here, haha.

I lived in Knoxville for a couple of years recently. There are some areas on campus with older buildings that are not too bad, but in general, the campus is not what I would call pretty. You’re not too far from the Smokies, so they’re pretty accessible once you make your way through some traffic. Knoxville is more or less in a valley surrounded by mountains, but not in the mountains per se. I liked the fact that in most directions you can see mountains in the distance, though. Auto air pollution is bad due to the fact that the city sits in a valley, coupled with the temperature and humidity. Not too far from the main campus is a large ag research campus along the Tennessee River, which is somewhat scenic. By far, I’d say the ugliest thing in Knoxville is the particular shade of UT orange; it’s everywhere. (As a Michigan fan, who took a lot of grief for that when I lived in Ohio, I’d have to say that i would rather look at scarlet and gray any day than Tennessee orange.) Other than that, the people are friendly, it’s an interesting part of the country, and you can easily get out to some beautiful areas outside the city.

Thanks.

Ok, maybe not ugly, but I heard most of the campus, was, ehh not that great(like you said).

I’m part of the incoming freshman class and I’m from Michigan. I was skeptical too of UTK when I was applying because of all the reviews I read of it being an ugly campus. When I first visited the campus it was a lot nicer then what I thought it would be. There are some areas that aren’t considered as “safe” as others like Fort Sanders, but I’m pretty sure that it is considered off campus. The campus is set on the Tennessee River and personally I think you have to visit it yourself if you are interested because the campus is definitely different. It’s not meant for someone who doesn’t like to walk because the campus is very very hilly. Some of the buildings are really nice like the Library is stunning along with all of the athletic facilities especially the student rec center (TRECS). If you are very interested in Tennessee I definitely recommend you to take a visit, the campus tour they give is pretty good and very informative.

I can’t find too many pictures but here are a couple.

Looks pretty nice, I’ll have to check it out.

Hopefully I’ll be able to go in the fall, during football season.

Thanks

bump I guess. Anyone have anything else?

On another note, how hard is it to get Vol tickets?
I’m going to assume pretty hard, huh? I’ve got some family in Knoxville and we might try and go see them and it would be really cool to see the Vols.

Thanks

We visited the campus a couple of weeks ago for the UCLA/Tennessee football game.
I thought the campus was really pretty, actually.
I have never seen such amazing school spirit. The football stadium attendance was 102,000 for that game, and but for the UCLA Bruin fans, everyone else was in orange.
We walked all over the campus. It’s very hilly.
I think it would be a wonderful place to spend four years.

Oh, and it seemed easy to get football tickets. Apparently, reselling tickets is legal in Tennessee, and we saw people everywhere selling them.
Then again, that was for a UCLA game. Probably harder to get tickets for the bigger rivalry games?
