This is my local school. It has pretty decent accreditation for some programs. Do you think you can get a decent job in general coming from this school. My major is either business management or computer science. Thank you.
It would also save my parents a lot of money. If I went to a private school like Iona it would be a ton more money but do you think I could get decent opportunities as if I went to a public school like this or is a private lac a better option.
It’s an accredited CUNY school. I’m no expert, but I think it would be fine.
Would your stats allow you to join the honors college? It’s a decent, accredited school but on top of this, the honors college is quite good and would enhance your experience.
Depending on your stats and parents’income, people here may have other suggestions (SUNYs, private schools).
Well my overall gpa through sophomore year is an 82 but I’m having upward trends for example the first semester of soph year I had a 75 the second semester I got a 90 and I plan to get 90s the rest of high school. And I could afford all state schools.
I think oneonta is nice but I don’t know if I would get in.
The SUNY/CUNY system is well regarded in NY and no wonder, with its results. If cost is a serious issue, yes, SI is more than adequate and I would not recommend spending the money to go to Iona instead. If you can get into some of the honors programs of other better known CUNYS ?, afford to go away to a SUNY, that could add another dimension to your college experience
What about Baruch or hunter do you think they would cater to an in city student with an 85 average because I see there acceptance rates are 27 and 43 percent and there common data set says they have students with my grades but yet they have very selective admission rates. So do you think more selective CUNY’s like these would cater to a student like me?
“cater”? I can’t say. That is something you have to personally asses. The advantage of SI is that the commute is comfortable as it’s nearby and you save a lot of money. All of the CUNY programs I’ve seen are good. Baruch certainly has the name, particularly its honors college as the best of the bunch. One issue I do have with the CUNYs in NYC is that sometimes getting through their bureaucracy and getting the courses needed can be a nightmare. I don’t know is SI is better. I’m guessing it is, being away from the craze of Manhattan. I do have a friend who went there who did just fine with her degree. Her DD did take supplementary courses there though did not matriculates there.
You’d need a ~1300 SAT for Baruch with a GPA in the mid 80s and even that would make it a reach.
SUNYs are well regarded, too - if your parents can pay for room&board* look into New Paltz (high match), Oswego, Plattsburgh (both matches, and especially Albany (low reach) where business is a specialty with a great college.
Run the be price calculator on Siena, St Bonaventure, Hobart &William Smith, Elmira, RIT, Champlain. Any of these is better than Iona but their net price should be affordable for your family without loans.
- You MUST talk about college budget with your parents.
Will do. And my guidance counselor said he could see my getting into and going to Albany. Im probably going to tour this upcoming year. And I’ll look into the schools you mentioned
And I could definitely afford room and board because the overall net price for my income is 12,000 which is totally affordable for state schools.
If you can afford SUNY, including room and board, you have LOTS of options!
Here’s the list of GPA/ SAT/ACT comparisons for SUNY: https://www.suny.edu/media/suny/content-assets/documents/summary-sheets/Admissions_qf_stateop.pdf
How is the net price at a SUNY school $12k? The COA is ~$25k for state residents. Where’s the $13k coming from?
i Googled on the internet to see average cost after aid and it says the average cost for an instate resident after aid is 12000 and then I went to the niche app looked at the income chart and looked at my income number and it says 13000 and plus there’s a great thing called excelsior that I’m qualified for which means any family that makes under 120,000 qualifies for a 5000 tuition cut and over and my guidance counselor who worked for a SUNY as a financial aid counselor said I qualified for it.
Probably through Excelsior?
It’d make SUNY value hard to beat and private colleges would not likely be competitive with that barring serious merit (which would require higher test scores and consistent good grades junior year).
Will failing a class sophomore and freshman year do me a lot harm in terms of hurting my admissions chances. I failed math one semester freshman and one semester sophomore year. My last semester I received a overall grade of a 81. If I continue bringing my grades up in my math classes will it make up for the classes I failed. Let’s says I get 85-90 during junior year in that class is this viewed positively by admission officers.
In other words do you think the fact that I failed a class but then started having good grades in it junior year and late sophomore year will get my admission declined by schools mentioned.
Did you retake the semester in summer school and pass? If not, do so asap.
What math are you talking about?
Being very strong at math is essential for CS (through calculus) and a good background, through precalculus honors (preferably calculus) matters for business.
