I am a direct admit to KElley. Since Kelley is their best program, would it be like extremely hard to get good grades in classes?

also would u say IUB is pretty stingy with giving a generous grades to kids?

Although there are many business majors on this forum that might agree with you, I doubt Kelley is the best program IU has to offer. The rest of the university is pretty darn impressive–ask Joshua Bell, Kevin Kline, Jane Pauley, Will Shortz, or Isiah Thomas.

Thanks rrah. But do you thinking studying at Kelley would be really hard for me(little above average student at a all boys catholic high school). Would getting a good grade at Kelley be more difficult than at George Washington U a medium size private school?

Thank you XEPA!!

I hope I don’t get weedout by the Kelley…

it seems like everyone is like KELLY KELLY KELLY. is it horrible to get your business degree out of the business school? i didnt apply to be a direct admit i put undecided; so i was wondering if theres a huge diff between getting your buisness degree in whatever outside of kelly… thanks!

“Hard” is kind of a relative term.

lightening, what do you mean by “getting your business degree outside the business school?” If you earn a business degree, you’re earning it from the school of business-- the Kelley School of Business.

If you’re not a direct admit then you’ll eventually apply to enter the school that has the major you wish to pursue. I don’t know if that answers your question or not… I’m not sure if I completely understand what you mean.

like theres no way i can get my business degree unless i get into kelly?
so since its so hard to get in what if i dont?

no, if you get a business degree from IU you’re going to get it from Kelley.

I would check out this page, it explains some of the admission requirements for prospective kelley students who start out in the university division (which is what you’ll be in if you weren’t a direct admit).

[Future IU Freshmen: Admissions: Undergraduate Program: Kelley School of Business: Indiana University Bloomington](<a href=“Undergraduate | Bachelor's Degree in Business | Indiana Kelley”>Undergraduate | Bachelor's Degree in Business | Indiana Kelley)

yeah ive been over that page many times, and i know the prerequisites…
im just worried that if i dont get in im screwed. i might petition for direct admit but i cant find that form…

ahh yeah, it would be nice to have the security of knowing that you’re going into IU already admitted to Kelley. But as long as you put in the work required, you shouldn’t have to worry.

Kelley is a top b-school, tied with Cornell in usnews, so its obviously going to be hard

alternatives to Kelley if you don’t get in-
SPEA - School of Public and Environmental Affairs - highly rated department
Econ Dept in College of Arts and Sciences (also hard though)
Take one or two classes in another field that you might be interested in and fall in love with it.

lightning, I think the reason you can’t find the form is that the deadline to apply for direct admit to Kelley was April 1st. Here is a link I found from an older post here at the IUB CC page. (The advanced search function on CC is a wonderful thing!)

<a href=“Undergraduate | Bachelor's Degree in Business | Indiana Kelley”>Undergraduate | Bachelor's Degree in Business | Indiana Kelley;

If the only reason you weren’t directly admitted is because you didn’t list business as your major, and you didn’t petition soon enough, then that is unfortunate. However, I also see in older posts that you were told by JaradW about the petition process back in January. Why did you put it off so long, especially with so many threads about how much harder it is to get into Kelley?

The bottom line is, if you meet the academic requirements to be a direct admit, then you have the capacity to succeed at Kelley. Just keep in mind that getting high grades is more than a function of just classwork and test scores. Good time management and attention to detail are essential for success. It’s up to you to buckle down and get the job done.

Good luck!

i emailed someone from kelly and he said:
“…you will apply at the end of your freshman year. If you earn all B’s and above, you will be guaranteed admission.”
im saving that email! gaurenteed!! WOOOO. i can do all B’s no problem. is this standard? or do you think he looked at my app or something before he responded…

Likely standard. I was told as a direct admit that I could receive C’s and even a D and they wouldn’t kick my out of Kelley. It seems reasonable that they would admit freshmen who have a B average.

This was also discussed in some other threads–and by one person on here who said he worked for the Kelley school.

The consensus is that with more and more direct admits, the requirement for non-direct admits to get into Kelley has gone up slightly. The estimate is that it now takes about a 3.1 to 3.2 GPA with no Ds to get into Kelley as a non-direct admit candidate–and that you should also be able to show some experience in clubs or extracurricular activities such as charities or student government.

If you think about it, this makes sense–if over half the graduating class is going to be direct admits, then there will be a greater competition for the remaining spots in the business school–which will naturally lead to those admitted having higher grades than in previous years (when a straight B average, 3.0 GPA, would get you in).

The group work in Kelley sucks if you’re stuck with a bad group. This has happened to me multiple times. The individual work is pretty easy (I haven’t come across anything that I couldn’t grasp as long as I put forth the effort).
