Is the Dartmouth campus good for running??

Kind of an odd question, I know, but I love running and will probably not be able to run competitively in college so I want to make sure that the school I go to has some good running. First of all, how is the campus? Are there good trails/paths? I'm kind of worried that, since Dartmouth is a pretty small campus, I won't really be able to do long, scenic runs. And second, is there much of a running atmosphere? I know that the student body is known to be pretty collectively outdoorsy, but do a lot of people go running or form running groups? (Outside, not on treadmills. And yes, I know that I will probably have to run on a treadmill 4 months out of the year because of the weather) Thanks so much!

I usually don’t run more than 5 or 6 miles, and for that, the golf course has some fantastic trails that thread through the woods, by the river, etc. Really nice, especially during the fall. If you want to go on longer runs, ask some of the cross country runners for their routes. They get to almost all of their trails by foot, and the workouts are up to 18 or so miles – so they will have a lot of info.

Running is pretty big on campus. You own’t have a problem finding a running buddy if you want one

Here’s a link to some of the running routes the cross country team uses:

The running is pretty amazing. Some roads barely have traffic (for example lots of people run Rip Road.) There are also lots of trails and paths. Its going to be pretty hard to beat. One thing to consider, however, is that its cold in the winter - too cold to run outside- so you might have the use the gym (which is new and super nice).
