<p>Ok, basically the title says it all: does the collegeboard's International Student Handbook worth the price? (btw, it costs around 20 euros, but it's not about the price - i mean, is it useful or not?)</p>
<p>I haven’t seen the actual book, only read the description put out by Collegeboard.</p>
<p>It seems that all of the information of the 2,900 college profiles is available for free through Collegeboard’s college search engine. (Check the “For International Students” tab.) The college search engine is probably a much better way to cut down the initial number of colleges you are considering than a book with thousands of colleges listed alphabetically. </p>
<p>The remainder of the book is supposed to be a guide on how to apply to college and how to apply for financial aid. If you are new to the topic, you might find that useful. I’ve read dozens of these guides put out by various companies and organizations and they all say more or less the same: that is, they give you a general overview of the process (so general that it applies to most colleges out there) but don’t give you concrete information that would help you e.g. find the 10 colleges strongest in your major and most likely to give you financial aid.</p>
<p>In short: if you have regular internet access, the book probably won’t do much for you.</p>
<p>yes. Not worth the price if you have internet access. If you have that money, better invest it into Princeton Review’s best colleges or Insider’s guide to the colleges etc/</p>
<p>No. I bought it, and was really disappointed. It doesn’t tell you anything that you can’t find on websites, and some school profiles aren’t even updated from older editions. The first couple of chapters break down the US higher education, with diagrams etc. and there are about two paragraphs on the Visa process. They have stats on how many internationals are accepted and how much, if any, financial aid they get, but I’ve noticed that many of these are incorrect. Just an example: it has numbers on how many internationals at USC get fin aid, however USC doesn’t even offer them any. The second half of the book is simply a directory of universities. So nothing you can’t find online.</p>
