Is the Mid-Year Report a heavy factor in Interim Decisions?

I was wondering because I have a feeling my grades this year might have dropped slightly from last year due to a harder courseload and additional EC commitments, etc. Our first semester ends the second week (mid-jan about) we get back from the holidays. Will Rice receive my first semester grades in time to affect its decision on my application for interim?

my feeling is that they will go over them.. if the drop is bi like from A's and B's to C's and D's then it can hurt... but a small drop wont kill you

yea its a pretty small drop and hopefully insignificant drop now that i think of it (mostly a's to a couple potential b's). antarius, were you accepted interim? and if so, did you have to send the mid year before getting the news?

u will be fine.
I didnt apply ID mysef and I applied with an Indian education background so it was different in my case.

I may be wrong, I am speculating. My feeling is that since they ask for it it is used for screning. I wouldnt worry about a few B's...

Same topic but from another point of view..

my grades have improved in a significant way in this past semester..do you think that they will take that into account?

my rank has increased and i think that it will have a significant affect on whether i get in or not. my counselor said that we wont be re-ranked until about january 17 though and i dont know if it will make it in time for interim decision. any thoughts?

if your grades have improved.. and they do look into your mid year report, then it will help you a lot. An improvement of any form is a great help

I want to make sure I'm interpreting this correctly. The Rice application instructions state:

(on page 4) "4. Official Transcript(s). Candidates should include all work completed before the filing deadline."

I interpret this to mean that since my grades weren't out by December 1st, I do not have to send in the semester transcript. Is that correct?

the next availiable grades should go with the midyear report then

CaptainZ et al.,

You should really call Rice about stuff like deadlines, etc. I do know that you do have to turn in your grades if you're ID. I called Rice last year, and it's not something that you can just skirt around.

I just called Rice and they said that there was no deadline for the ID Midyear report. They did say that they needed it on file though, so I'm a little conflicted in its significance in the actual decision making process.

i dont think it makes a difference in the decision making process. I think they select the number of people for ID. Then they check the midyear report for those people to make sure they havent slipped too much. if all goiod, you are admitted

Thanks jakpot & Antarius.

I decided to send a letter, explaining the situation & included an unofficial transcript, with my midyear grades and new GPA. I told them my counselor would be sending the midyear report right around Feb. 1st. I figured it couldn't hurt, since my GPA even went up a tad.

smart move.. i wish thee luck

does rice have a special form for the mid year report or do we use the common app one?

They have their own form, but you could use the Common App one if you want.

stick with the app type u applied withy. If you a-pplied using the Rice App. then dont use the Common app supplement

I'm having trouble finding the Rice mid year report form online, can someone link to it? Their new website messes me up

Its in the PDF for the Part II RICE application

Yeah, if decisions are supposed to be mailed the 10th, and my grades aren't finalized to the 5th, I question how heavy a factor Mid-Year Report will be.

well, they can rescind admission at any point... so its not pointless (the Midear eport)
