Is the MIT WISE program worth it?

This will conflict with school time and also my outside college class, it is also 3-4 days before my SATs AND I am not planning on applying to MIT, so I'm not sure if I should apply...

Well, what information would help you make this decision?

Well I still think it is worth it to apply but it is a difficult choice.

What would make it easier? Or is it just inherently hard bc tradeoffs are hard?

Yea just tradeoffs, I might be attending another fly in just weeks before, I can’t miss 4 days of school, or even 2 days.

If you don’t plan to apply to MIT, then why bother?

^ The program allows high school women to explore science and engineering. You don’t have to be interested in applying to MIT to be interested in the program.

I really want to visit there.
Yea plus I am going to engineering or science of some sort almost for sure.
I am applying for Penn Early Decision.

It is for both men and women lol.

Are we talking about the same program? The one I’m talking about is for women and is a year-long local program, so I’m guessing not…

Ohh, I bet you’re talking about this one:
WISE 2022 | MIT Admissions;

Yay name collision.

My son went last fall (wise: wknd immersion in science & eng’g) and had a blast. During the pgm he had the chance to sit in during an eric lander biology class. If you dont know who he is, google him. Dont be surprised if you find yourself applying to MIT, if you’re selected for wise and end up going… Last yr there were 2 sessions to choose from, one during september, the other about a month later, so maybe theres a chance to avoid your SAT conflict. My son will attend MIT this fall.

I was just wondering if you get to choose whether or not you can choose which lectures you attend. I don’t have a problem with biology but I was more interested in a chemistry class.

There are many lectures to choose from, and you can attend more than one. My son doesnt like bio (he’s more of a chem & phys guy) thats why he chose to attend it. If they can make bio compelling to him, then he couldnt go wrong with whatever he chose later on. He was very pleased with lander’s session, he had a chance to meet him briefly after the lecture and told him so to which he simply said something like “Thats what i’m here for, to make it interesting to you…”
