Is the Statement of Intent to Participate Binding?

I just received notice that I'm going to be waitlisted for Irvine, but in order for me to even be able get on that list I have to submit a Statement of Intent to Participate. Does this mean that if I fill it out and I do get in that I have to attend Irvine?

I hope it doesn't seem like I don't want to get in. It's actually my second choice, with my first being somewhat more of a reach school. I just want to know that if I somehow do get admitted to my first choice that I'll be able to get in even if I'm on the waitlist for UCI.

SIP isn’t a binding contract or anything. It’s just stating that you still have interest to attend Irvine if you do get admitted from the wait list. You can be on several wait lists from different schools. If you get admitted from your first choice school and you submit your SIR (statement of intent to register) and then you get admitted from UCI, you can choose to withdraw your SIR from your first choice and submit a SIR to UCI. (Just notify the schools quickly).

But, the thing is, after May 1st (SIR submission date), if you choose to withdraw your SIR and submit to another school, at least for UCI, you’re not guaranteed housing… :/

Alright. Thanks a lot for the reply, it was very informative.
