Hi, I was under the impression that there was no mandatory summer reading, is it? I have been seeing all these threads about summer reading and I think i might be missing something.

The Tisch kids got an email asking them to read "1968: The Year That Rocked the World," and they were required to sign up for a group discussion of the book during orientation.

The Tisch drama kids also were given various books to read before the semester starts.

the summer reading is suggested for us to do during the summer.

It does say suggested...but it's NYU, so it means read it. Since we all over-achieved enough to get in, they probably expect that we all will read anything "suggested."

I have to read 'The Emperor's Children' for Steinhardt; haven't gotten to it yet, but it's definitely considered required.

That said, will anyone be grading me on this book? No. So I guess I could get by not reading it, but I figure that would be a bad way to start my year.

CAS should be reading "Middlesex" by Jeffrey Eugenides

i know for stern it is optional

we just talked about it for like an hour in new student seminar (i'm in steinhardt.) i guess you should probably have an idea of what its about but you dont really need to analyze it that much..
