Stern summer reading?

I've heard rumors... Is there summer reading for us Sternies? And why didn't I receive something notifying me of it? >_<

-_-a
im 99.8752% sure there is no summer reading.

Unless policies changed this year, there definitely is summer reading for stern. But don't worry, there isn't a class on it or anything. I'm not sure what it is this year, but last year, our summer reading was the same as Steinhart kids.

At orientation they mentioned a summer reading book which was optional, I forget what book it was though.

yeah there was a summer reading last year, and the year before that, from what I know.

Ours was Bel Canto.

To be honest, most people don't read the book anyways.

my bad. apologies for that.
ive never heard about summer reading. not during the orientation, not from upperclassmen, never.
but it looks like that the book exists!

I know that Steinhardt has summer reading, but it's really easy. One book and all you have to do is read it (no "extra" work).

I haven't heard of this for Stern. For Steinhardt it is appearently required, but associated with a class all new students in the program take.

wouldn't it be cool if they made us read donald trump's "how to get rich quick"

I don't see how it'd be cool...

But they probably will give you summer reading. Hopefully they're sending you the book - our year, we read Don Quixote and Paper Son. They mailed us Paper Son. Don't worry, it'll get to you sooner or later.

cause all sternies want to get rich or die trying

i'm almost positive that it's an optional summer reading called 'The Namesake' by Jhumpa Lahiri. They have some groups that get together during the year to discuss the book.

The stern "optional" reading is The Namesake by Jhumpa Lahiri. i checked with upperclassmen sternies already. buh it IS optional and you'll receive a notice in the mail soon about it

hmmm optional... does that mean that we are not gonna have some book discussion sessions like other schools?

Aww man. I saw a very small snippet of it on one of the NYU stuff that I get every so often (the flip out page newsletter I guess). I thought we're reading Bel Canto by Ann Patchett this year. Oh well, I bought it like 6 months ago so I might as well read it - I don't think I can return it.

bel canto was our year (09); not a bad book overall
