Is the UCSD Housing Trick legit?

Saw this on Reddit, but I am questioning this trick’s legitimacy.

"from myApplication web portal, click on Housing tab-> Off Campus Housing then click on Students tab, log in again then click on List Myself As an Available Roommate

Do you see the generated @ucsd.edu email?"

a ucsd.edu email was generated for me, but my stats are honestly subpar for admissions: 3.7 UC GPA, 1930 old SAT, 1330 new SAT, varsity swim since freshman year, piano for 10 years, applied for human biology HAHA fml

@MumbaHunter it worked for me last year, but I was accepted as undeclared, not for the major I wanted, so I would say don’t trust everything you read on reddit.
In fact, I tried the trick right now, and I see email address there, but I applied as a transfer and given that the decision will only be released in about 2.5 months, they probably haven’t even looked at my application yet. So how would the system “know”?

Yes i see a generated mail with initials of name… wht does this mean

It was actually posted here on College Confidential last year and this theory was apparently debunked as well. But eh, we could all use a bit of hope.
