So when I applied as a transfer a few years back there was a housing trick that seemed to accurately predict if you were going to be admitted to UCSD. I want to figure out if there is a freshman housing trick as well.

My niece has applied for admission this year and from the beginning, when we click on the housing application tab in my admissions it has said "your admission status does not allow you to use this function" or something like that. We just checked and it has now changed! It says something different now which no longer says that her admission status doesn't allow her to use that function. Has anyone else's changed as well? Does anybody's housing app still say that their admission status doesn't allow them to use that function? What does your housing app say?

Our records indicate that your admissions status will not allow you to proceed with this Housing Application process for the term indicated. Please contact the Housing Office at 858-534-4010 during our normal weekday office hours of 8am to 4pm.

Looks like if this trick does work for Freshman, it’s not happening yet. Her housing app changed back to the original message. It was something different for a couple of hours but just changed back. Guess we’ll just have to wait until the 14th or 15th.

Mine still says this, didn’t get a call… am I screwed?

^ Who knows if this works. Most admissions “tricks” turn out to be bogus but for UCSD this Housing message change has seemed to predict admisssion in the past (for transfers anyway).

Usually, housing messages changed a day or two before decisions came out. Since UCSD does rolling admissions for transfers, everytime there was a wave people would see their housing status change right before they were admitted. We’ll see if it works for Freshman too.

I have only heard of this for UCSD. UCLA used to have the URSA trick but they got wise to it and fixed the glitch. I don’t know if there are any tricks for Berkeley.

I haven’t seen any on the threads but there could have been. I wouldnt put too much weight on this. It’s just wishful thinking for those of us who havent got the call yet. We’ll know for sure on Saturday. If you get in, let us know and we’ll know this is bogus.

The housing application will become available when Admissions decisions are released in the Spring. Please check back in the Spring.

This is what mine says! I haven’t checked the portal since January though, so I’m not sure when the message change took place. Good luck to everyone on Saturday (whoops, thought it was tomorrow…more waiting haha)

@USMC0311: Wait, sorry I’m being a bit slow, but can you remind me which message is the “new” message? Is it the one where is says the student’s current status prevents him/her from accessing the application or the one where it says to check back later in the spring?

I got the call and my housing application says to check back in the spring. Is that expected for someone who got the call?
