Is the World Scholar International Honor Society a scam?

I cant find nothing on the net bout this society. Is it legit, or just a darn scam??
And is NSHSS really that bad?

Scam

Yes it’s a scam.
Basically any “honor” you have to pay for isn’t a real honor - real honors are always bestowed for free.

Except Phi Beta Kappa. That isn’t a scam, but you do have to buy that stupid key if you want one. And no, I didn’t do this for my daughter, for those who remember my thread a few months back.

so hey can y’all tell what are some available honor societies? My son got recommended to that NHS and I do not know if there is any more.
PS We just moved from Spain to New England

You don’t need honor societies, as a hs student. National Honor Society criteria vary among high schools, the activities are often no more than other clubs.

May be better to have him focus on stretching academically and doing something of value for his community, some things toward future career interests, and other school activities with peers.

NHS is something you can do as part of high school. But it’s more about the opportunities it brings - an established setting for volunteering and implementing projects on a big scale.

Phi Beta Kappa is something you’re invited to as a senior (or, more rarely, as a junior) in college and it’s really valuable and respected, especially if you’re aiming for grad school. Only about top 10% colleges are even allowed to invite students (some parents check for Phi Beta Kappa as a check on academic quality.) And yes you buy the “key” and is thus and exception to the rule you don’t need to give money for an honor.

If it asks you for money, it is likely a scam.

Define “really that bad.” Colleges won’t give you any credit for it on your application. They probably won’t hold it very hard against you if you fell for the marketing pitch though.
