Hey, I just received this card congratulating me on being nominated for membership in the National Society of High School Scholars. What exactly is NSHSS? Is it a noteworthy recognition or is it just a scam or something?

I got it in the mail and asked a college about it and they say it is a small plus. But you have to pay for it which makes it absolutely ridiculous. Colleges find National Honor Society in much greater regard than NSHSS. It's not a scam though it is real. in my opinion it is a waste of money.

I got one today too....

I think it is a bogus NHS rip-off

It's a scam, along with Who's Who Among High School Students. There should be a sticky or something with a list of these scams. Who knows how many people they rip off every year.

It's definitely a scam. I don't think Clay Nobel is in the real Nobel family.

It's not a scam. Whether it's worth the money is up for debate. And if you're talking about Claes Nobel, he actually is in the Nobel family.

Also, there's already a thread about this so you should probably read that first.

do you have a link to that thread, MNKeeper?

I agree that it's just a rip-off of NHS.

haha i just got this today too

i like the quote in it from the girl who thinks that this membership deal was actually "instrumental" in getting her into princeton

Here's the link to the other thread:

I don't know how people can think that NSHSS is a rip-off of NHS. The two are entirely different.

I thought it wasn't a scam, up to the point when I applied and everything cuz they said it was totally free, but they mailed me another letter last week asking for $45 for membership.
