Is there a chance I get get into UF?

Highschool: Very rigorous College-Prep Private High School
State: Florida
GPA: 3.31 W
ACT: 34
AP’s: AP US (4), AP HUG (5), AP Macro (4), AP Micro (4)

EC’s:

  1. Owner of a business (That I built from ground up)
  2. 3 Summer Internship at a Medical Software Firm
  3. Worked during summers
  4. I tutor students in all academic areas but primarily computer science. I also tutor senior citizens (at the local retirement home in computer basics).
  5. President of Environmental Club
  6. Owner of a blog with 26,000 subscriptions
  7. Completed MIT Intro Computer Science online course in my free time
  8. Have several family responsibilities
  9. Took Summer Programs at Auburn, Columbia, and Williams
  10. Have participated in multiple Community Service opportunities
  11. Member of Yale Model United Nations

I’m worried about getting into UF primarily due to very low GPA (Which is a result of me not caring until it was too late and my school being ridiculously difficult). My Junior year my GPA was a 3.89, so I guess I have an upward trend going for me. Is there still any chance I can get in?

Note: According to my school’s website, the average GPA and ACT admitted to UF (from my school) is a 3.64 and 29 ACT. Also, as you can see from my tech prominent EC’s, I plan on majoring in Computer Science.

Just noticed the spelling error in the title. Sorry about that

UF is a high match to low reach. You should apply, but your GPA puts you into the bottom 25% of the class (and UF puts more weight on GPA than Test Scores). Your EC’s seem strong, and that would help.

How do you compare to your peers? 72% of enrolled students are in the top 10% of their class, 96% are in the top 25%. If you’re out of the top 25% of your class, UF is a reach.

Still, it’s holistic admissions, and you never really know. Apply to UF, but make sure you’re also applying to a few other schools.

Good Luck!
