Is there a point in retaking?

I took the SAT twice already: in January and May. My January scores were 2050 and my May scores are 2160. I exceeded my 'score range' by about 10 points. I know that most universities don't really mind if you take it a third time, but my question is that will my scores really improve if I do? I already broke the limits that the score range prediction of my January test imposed on me, so can I really attain my goal of a 2300+?

What were your score breakdowns for both test dates?
If you have a particular weakness in one area it’s easier to improve than when you have, say 720s across all areas.

Really weird breakdown. Highest score was math in jan and lowest was math in may:

January:
CR: 680
Math: 690
Writing: 690 (9 essay)

May:
CR: 750
Math: 700
Writing: 710 (10 essay)

What do you typically get on practice tests? Also, have you taken any subject tests?

Well the fact that you managed to significantly improve your CR between the tests makes me think that you may have the potential to get higher scores on Math and Writing too. Though, it depends on how much study you did on Math and Writing for the May test, if you studied pretty hard for not much improvement I would suggest it’s not really going to change with more study again. There appears to be a sort of ‘ceiling’ effect with SAT scores. In the end, only you can know whether you are punching above your weight.

My practice tests used to vary a hell of a lot. My highest range on any practice test was 2250-2390 (assuming a 10 essay, otherwise it goes higher) and lowest score was 2050 (again, 10 essay). Out of the ten blue book tests I took I’d say the average is around 2200.

I studied the same for all the sections, and by ‘study’ I mean just did practice tests. I’m pretty sure I can score a LOT better in math. Writing… eh, maybe.

Do you need higher scores? Where do you plan on applying?

If you really want higher scores, the only way to get them is to take them again.
Colleges don’t mind if you take them thrice, so go for it.

Stanford, Berkeley, Carnegie Mellon, UMich, University of Illinois, few Ivies.

I would consider retaking …i would say i got pretty lucky but i went from
2020->2160->2300
(M 660 ->700->760)
(CR 630->660->800)
(W 720->800->740)
