It's my junior year of high school and the first semester is pretty much finished. I have two low C's from Trigonometry Honors and AP Chemistry. They weren't my finest classes and I understand that I do not have a strong suit for math and science related subjects. However to attend the colleges that I want to attend I need to have more than perfect grades. Aside from not being a natural in math and science I've also been dealing with my parents divorce after my mother revealed that the real reason for my father leaving was that he was committing adultery. That aside these low grades are my responsibility and I feel hopeless at this point. Even with straight A's next semester I feel as if this first semester will become an indelible mark that will not be avoidable. Should I be this worried?

Why would you take Honors Trig and AP chem if you can’t handle the classes nevertheless not enjoy the subjects. See if you can drop out of those classes if it’s not too late, they’re just going to get harder throughout the year.

Have you gone to the teachers to express your interest in learning the material? Ask the teachers about getting extra help. Forget about the straight A’s and forget about wanting to attend a college that requires perfect grades. There are tons of wonderful colleges that don’t require perfect grades. There are tons of colleges that can’t fill their seats! But for now, go and talk to your teachers. Explain that you want to find a way to improve your understanding of the material (not the grade…the understanding). Find out if a tutor is available. Take any help that you can get and make it clear that you want to take advantage of any help he or she can offer. I disagree about the classes just getting harder. They won’t necessarily get easier unless you get help. Then they might.
