Is there anything future applicants should be doing right now? (+ Scholarship help?)

The only thing I can really think of is scouring for scholarships.
Is there anything UW offers in particular, something that would be great to get done during summer?

Is there anything you or your friends, siblings, or relatives wish they could have done the summer before applying to college to make life easier or themselves?

Also, does anyone know when UW will begin the admittance process for the 2012 school year? And the Honors Program as well?

Thanks in advance!

Forgot to add:

*Does anyone have scholarship recommendations for a junior, 2011-2012 senior. I’m in-state. Thanks!

I would like to know this as well. Thanks.

Hey, so I’m not sure if the link I’m going to provide is going to be of much help but hopefully it gives you an idea of the scholarships that UW offers.
[Scholarships — Freshman — University of Washington](http://admit.washington.edu/Paying/Freshman/Scholarships)
I highly suggest that you fill out the FAFSA for UW because that’s one of the ways that UW uses to calculate your financial need.

Also I am not sure when UW starts admitting students for Fall 2012 but I’m sure they will let you know beforehand once you start to apply in October. My guess is that UW will start admitting students around March like they did for this year but again I’m not 100% certain. As for Honors, they will let you know one month after you have been admitted.

Some advice: PLEASE. And I mean PLEASE start writing the essays (Personal and Cultural essays) early! They are crucial to your application and it would be detrimental to you as an applicant if you were to slack off on them.

Good luck!

I got a departmental scholarship my freshman year. Think about possible majors. Once late winter/early spring rolls around you can try to apply for departmental scholarships. The money is nice even if you decide to change your major later down the road.

I also second the essays advice. It’s really not worth slacking off on.

Also, check the AP/IB transfer credits page:
[Advanced Placement (AP) Policies — Test — Transfer — Apply — University of Washington](http://admit.washington.edu/Apply/Transfer/Test/AP)

UW is incredibly generous giving credit for these. Looking back, I would probably have self-studied one or two where there’s a 3 minimum for the AP, just for the transfer credit. The credits help in a multitude of ways - earlier registration (based on class standing), get prereqs out of the way, graduate early, etc. That being said, don’t go out of your way in this regard if it’s going to kill you. A little extra effort might pay off in the long run though.
