Is there anything I should do/see while I'm visiting there?

I'll be visiting UCLA next week with my family, along with USC.

Is there anything I should specifically do/see/eat while I'm there?

Thanks :)

diddy riese in westwood

eat 10char

Well where are you from? And do you mean do/see/eat at USC/UCLA or in the Los Angeles area in general? If it’s the latter case, go see Santa Monica pier, go to Magic Mountain etc lol. If it’s the former then go check out the Libraries on campus because I know for the UCLA tour they don’t show them to you as part of the tour (they don’t take you into any buildings in fact). You may also just want to explore the campus a bit on your own after/before the tour.

And I don’t know about you but I like materialistic things (yes i know that’s bad), so I love driving around through Bel Air, Holmby Hills (where MJ rented a house b4 he died, and where Playboy Mansion is), and Beverly Hills. There are a lot of really cool fancy houses, although most of them have big fancy gates and walls to keep them private… And you will probably see some ultra expensive cars. I generally see several Bentleys drivin’ around, I’ve seen Aston Martins, Lotus, Lamborghinis, Ferraris, and Rolls Royces regularly when I drive around the Beverly Hills area long enough. Kinda cool to see. But that’s just me!

getty center is close by.

Diddy Riese … is that affordable? I know some stores/restaurants in L.A. are crazy expensive, I just don’t know which ones. xD

@nodnarb: I’ve been to Beverly Hills before when I was younger, and it’s like stepping into a completely different world, I swear! BMWs and Mercedes everywhere! But thanks for your input. I’m from Maryland. And I did mean things to see at UCLA/USC and the L.A. area. :)

If you go to Magic Mountain, don’t go on a weekend. Just tour the campus and Westwood a little, then when you get to USC you can tour the campus and Compton :).

Diddy Riese is an ice cream shop with amazing cookies, $1.50 for an icecream sandwich that is amazing.

Walk from campus to Diddy Reise (cheap cookies/ice cream) in Westwood and walk around a bit more to see the movie theaters where lots of premiers are held. You can eat at BJ’s across the street.

Go to Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills just to see the expensive cars driving around but you can often see these in Westwood or even UCLA. You can eat at the Cheesecake Factory there for a reasonably priced and good meal.

Go to the beach around the pier area of Santa Monica and walk around the 3rd street promenade.

Go to Venice Beach.

Go to The Getty museum a couple of miles from UCLA.

If you’re into mountains and/or skiing/boarding you might want to head to Big Bear in the mountains to see what it’s like.

Further away for amusement parks you could go to Universal Studios, Disneyland, Magic Mountain, Knotts Berry Farm.

Even further you could make a side trip to San Diego (2 hour drive) and go to the beaches, Sea World, Wild Animal Park, Zoo.

While visiting the campuses consider what it might be like living in the particular areas and make sure you consider where you’ll live once you move out of the dorms into an apartment. Remember that in addition to attending the college you’ll also be living in the neighborhood for 4 years or so if you choose to attend.

Inexpensive AND sounds tasty!
Is it often crowded?

Diddy Reise is often crowded but the line moves very fast so it usually takes no more than a few minutes to get your cookies. It’s a place where you just go up to a counter and buy your cookies/ice cream and then leave.

$1.50?? i thought it was $1.25…which used to be $1.

I looked at the website and the ice cream sandwiches are $1.50.

You know how the economy is today…

It makes sense to charge more when you’re so popular and your competitors can’t respond.

OH I forgot.

What about parking at Diddy Reise?

Leave the car parked on campus (assuming you’ll be there) and walk to Diddy. It’s an easy walk. Otherwise, just drive around the block a few times looking for a meter spot but they’re not plentiful.

Parking in Westwood can be a nightmare.

Thanks! You guys are so helpful!

Well I don’t know when the “peak” times are for Westwood but I’ve been to the Chili’s there a couple time and there has always been some empty metered parking spots. Parking isn’t THAT bad.
