Is there anything that I can do to improve my chances the next two years?

Hello,

My mom has always wanted me to go here, although ive heard admissions are hard and you have to be an excellent student. I am a high school junior and my unweighted gpa is only a 3.88. My SAT score, not too hot, was a 1080 (out of 1600?, the new one last year …?). My AP score wouldn’t apply to admissions but on my first one (world history) I got a 4. Im going to take it for final next or this year. My score is low because I am an extremely slow test taker, but I took an SAT prep class last year and plan on doing another one outside of school. I was not able to participate in after school clubs and activites because my parents are very busy and work till 8, and I was only 15. Ill be able to drive now, so I plan on joining SNHS, NHS, Interact Club (volunteering) and Running Club (not track), I am finally old enough to apply to volunteer at the hospital but not enough for the animal shelter (and by my user you can tell, im a animal loving vegan). Is there anything I can do to make me even considerable for this lovely school? Im aware that I am too “average”, especially bc I want to do something in the medical field.

@plantbasedgirl

Is the GPA 3.88/4 or 3.88/5?

Do not feel too bad. You have certain advantages. You are a minority and I am assuming a muslim. The colleges are looking for diversity and this will help make up for some of the deficiencies that you have.

You can really help yourself by writing a great essay. I do not want to influence your thoughts but write around your life experience. Who knows where you will end up.

Good Luck.

Your GPA isn’t bad, but you’re right in that you really need to step-up EC’s and volunteer hours. As far as the SAT, it’s good that you’re retaking. However, if that doesn’t pan-out, you can always apply test-optional as it seems it’s beneficial to some recent applicants.

Further, @tamtiger is right about writing a strong essay. If you’re able to convey how badly you want to go to GW, how it’s the only school for you, and **why/b, then that will really help. Also, be sure to tour the campus and do anything else you can think of to show your “interest” in the school (this is something that gets looked-at in the admissions process).

Good luck, and feel free to check back in the future for further guidance!
