Is this a fraud,or an April fool's prank from Cornell? =P

I received an email from 'vls5@cornell.edu', a Mr.Jason C Locke today saying that my application for financial aid had been rejected.
I am an international student who was accepted at Cornell, but I applied for full financial need based and and am well below the 60K a year and a 100K a year asset mark. So my eligibility for the aid is no concern.
Before my acceptance letter, I received a likely letter from Cornell saying I had been selected as one of 50 Pauline and Irvine Tanner Dean's Scholars.
In my correspondence with the College, I was told I would be notified of my Financial Aid Decision by post.

So I found it strange that after all of this, my application for financial aid had been COMPLETELY rejected (not even partial aid). And also that it was done through email rather than post as I was told ( I have yet to receive any mail from Cornell).

I just wanted to know if anyone else received such an email from Cornell, because the email , along with the email address looks kind of suspicious.
Also, I got this on the 1st of April, so I was wondering whether it could possibly be an April Fool's prank? =P

The only reason I'm considering that option is because I received an email from a @fedex.com address which turned out to be a fraud. Any opinions? =P

i got the email too -.- i don’t think this is a joke :[

but since you got contacted about that scholarship maybe they made a mistake for you.

if this was a joke, it’s one heck of a cruel joke.

Its just, the email address looked weird, plus we were supposed to be posted the decision =/

Sorry to tell you guys that the e-mail is not fake. It really is about their rejecting your financial aid application. How do I know? Well, many international students who got accepted ED but requested financial aid received the same e-mail that you’ve just received. You can check on the ED 2015 thread about that matter. (I forgot the title of the thread - but I’m sure it’s there). I was admitted ED with financial aid, so I know many people whose financial aid applications were rejected.

About the Pauline & Irving Dean’s Scholar, one of my seniors obtained the same likely letter, but his financial aid application was also denied. I know it’s painful, but you just have to move on.

Yeah, I guess. Thanks for the info man
