Alright, so I am in middle school. I am formulating a plan for my high school schedule. Here it is:
9th Grade:
AP World History
AP Biology (Or Honors)
AP Spanish,
Honors Precalc
English 9 or 10
Orchestra
10th Grade:
APUSH
APChem
AP German
Ap Calc BC
English 10 or AP Lang
Orchestra
11th Grade:
AP US Gov / Into to Computer Programming
AP Physics I
AP Macroeconomics/Microeconomics
Calc III (Dual Enrollment)
Ap Lit or Ap Lang
Orchestra
12th Grade:
Ap Psych
Ap Environmental Science (Last course - should I dual enroll and take something else?)
Multivariable Calculus (Dual)
Orchestra
Ap Comp Sci
Ap Lit or something else I don’t know
I do know about how I am taking both AP Spanish and AP German. I will have taken Spanish I and II in middle school, and then self-studied III and IV before taking AP Spanish. I have been self studying German for a while now, and am at a high level. I will review everything from German 1-4. So how does it look?
I will also self study for AP Stats.
Honestly, I would not take 3 AP classes freshman year. No more than two since it will be your first ones. I would take honors bio freshmen year, and then take AP Bio instead of AP Enviro senior year.
As far as AP Spanish and AP German make sure you talk with the teachers about it BEFORE the school year starts, or in the very first week. That’s a lot of classes to skip, so talk to the teachers to see if you’re ready.
I do honestly feel like I am ready for the challenge. I am very strong with language, so I wouldn’t even count AP Spanish as really AP level. I am pretty good with science too.
Calc 3 and Multivar are the same course. College courses are also usually only one semester. I would do linear algebra and multivar/calc 3 junior year, and then diff eq and some other course senior year.
Check the prereqs at your high school. At many schools, you cannot take AP Bio, AP chem, etc, without taking honors or regular first.
I think you underestimate AP courses greatly. These are college-level courses. You don’t need to take so many, especially in your freshman and sophomore years.
There are test-outs I would have to take, yes.
I probably will not take AP World.
I just finished freshman year and was super-stressed with only 1 AP class - Biology. I had friends that also took AP Comp Sci, but they were totally overworking themselves and were always stressed. They stayed up past 1am almost every night and got 5 hours of sleep.
Do you fulfill all your school’s graduation requirements? Are there required PE / history / english / etc. credits?
I don’t recommend taking 3 AP’s freshman year unless you feel you are very very prepared. Dang with that many credits you might be able to graduate college out of high school!
Most schools won’t let you take AP Bio freshman year, so double check that you’re allowed to do that. Also, unless you’re fluent in AP Spanish or can test into it, the same goes for that and for AP German. I don’t think this is very realistic at all.
I would not bite off more than you can chew. First, check with your school to see if you can even take those courses in the grades you’re expecting to, because there are often prerequisites. Secondly, yes you might feel more than ready now, but trust me don’t underestimate the rigor of AP courses. Yes it’s perfectly fine to push yourself but this schedule is not realistic at all like penn2021 said. If your school even let you sign up for these classes, I’d be surprised if your GPA didn’t tank after the first year. If you have your heart set on doing AP courses in your freshman year, I would do Psych, Enviro Sci, or Comp Sci because those are the relatively easier ones. If you are doing more than 1 AP a year, especially in 9th and 10th grade, be prepared for A LOT of all-nighters. I’m sure you haven’t had the need to pull one in middle school but once you hit high school, and with your schedule expectations, you will be falling asleep standing up. good luck
You’re probably a fairly bright individual and if you’re as ambitious as you seem, you could probably handle the 3 AP freshman year schedule. The 2 language APs in two years is very unusual but if you’re proficient and your school gives you approval then it seems you should be in good shape. Everything else looks good.
